Tribute to Fallen Men from Woodside Firehouse on Friday

Sept. 7, 2011 Staff Report

This Friday, firefighters, politicians and members of the community are commemorating the loss of nine men from Woodside-based FDNY Rescue 4 who died in the World Trade Center attacks.

The commemoration will also pay tribute to six other men from Rescue 4 who died in the line of service, putting out other fires.

The event will take place outside of Rescue 4 at 64-18 Queens Blvd at 12 p.m. That block is going to be co-named Boulevard of Bravery.

Jimmy Van Bramer, who is holding the event, said “this is going to be a meaningful event where we recognize the bravery of these men. We are expecting a big turnout, which would be appropriate given what these men did for us all.”

The event will include the FDNY bagpipe band and children from P.S.11.

FDNY Rescue 4 has a large coverage area, responding to fires throughout Western Queens.

Bloomberg is a disgrace! He has banned clergy from attending the 9/11 ceremony – he does not want to remind people of how much he disrespects the will of the people. There is a protest on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Park Place and West Broadway. First responders will be there and members of the clergy. There is also a prayer vigil at St. Paul’s near the WTC at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Meanwhile at the official anniversary commemoration at Ground Zero, Bloomberg has banned first responders from attending. Can’t let those real-life heroes getting in the way of politicians’ photo ops.
