A comedy duo called The Mommy Show has paired up with local childcare center Sabrina’s Play Studio to give Sunnyside parents a night off next month.

The Mommy Show is a musical comedy duo made up of moms Ellie Dunn and Melanie Kinard. On Feb. 4., The Mommy Show will collaborate with Sabrina’s Play Studio, located at 52-07 Queens Blvd., for a “Parents’ Night Out.”

From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sabrina’s will provide activities and games, crafts, open play and will also serve dinner to the kids, according to assistant manager Gigi Valentine. After parents drop off their (potty-trained) kids there, they can head to Maggie Mae’s at 41-15 Queens Blvd. for the Mommy Show performance starting at 7 p.m.

The event costs $45 in total: $30 for Sabrina’s and $15 for the Mommy Show.

“Parents often don’t treat themselves to a night out that includes any kind of performance,” Dunn, a Sunnyside parent, said. “They have to travel to and from the performance, and they have to pay for the performance and often they want to get dinner, and when you’re adding babysitters’ fees on top of all of that it becomes a cost prohibitive night.”

“[This way] it’s local, in the neighborhood and all in one,” she continued.

The Mommy Show sings and jokes about all aspects of parenting life.

“They’re all funny, slightly dirty songs about marriage, and parenting, and getting older,” Dunn said.

The evening will also include a game called “Diaper Ball;” a balled up diaper will be thrown into the audience, and whomever catches it wins a prize. Dunn said prizes will include a baby carrier from Baby K’tan and a gift certificate for yoga classes.

Dunn added that The Mommy Show prioritizes working with local partners for their shows. She said the presenting sponsor is Sunnyside Pediatric Dental and Orthodontics Empowered by hellosmile; other partners will include Baby K’tan, the Dog and Duck, McManus Irish Dance, Pure Spa & Salon, Tiny You, Bing’s Hallmark and Yoga in Sunnyside.
