Amtrak Worker Who Shot Fellow Employee in Sunnyside is Now Dead: NYPD

Gunman’s SUV in the Rite Aid parking lot

March 28, 2019, By Meghan Sackman

An Amtrak worker who shot a fellow employee in the leg and then fled in an SUV this morning is dead, police say.

A dispute erupted between the two men at around 8 a.m. on 39th Street and Skillman Avenue, police say, when one of the men pulled out a gun and shot the victim once in his left leg.

The suspect fled the scene in an SUV and went south on 39th Street. The suspect then drove to the Rite Aid parking lot at 50-15 Roosevelt Ave.

The suspect shot himself dead in his car at 51st Street and Roosevelt Avenue, police said.

Information on the deceased man has yet to be released.

The victim, 53, was conscious upon the arrival of EMS and is likely to recover.

Guess people working or living in Queens haven’t had access to Thrive, Mrs. De Bozo’s waste of taxpayers money. It is a shame that those who really need mental health services don’t have access. These situations seem to be happening more often. Where have all those millions gone?

Dear Boss

Being mentally ill is really shooting yourself in the foot. Most who are mentally ill and violent have absolutely no idea /they/ are the problem in the equation. To them, it’s everyone else in the world.

How many police officers have been shot or worse because of some wandering wacko brandishing whatever and the family members are all “there was no need to shoot my auntie! She was mentally ill!”.

If they were mentally ill why are they allowed out of anyone’s sight? Why are they not on medication and having their medication monitored? So many people would be alive, including the mentally ill if everyone involved would take these things seriously.

The victim was shot in the train yards in LIC. The perp committed suicide in the Rite Aid parking lot in Woodside. None of this crime occurred in Sunnyside.

Ehhh… depending on what map you look at 51 St is the first street in Woodside. Or 52nd first the street is Woodside.

39th and skillman is the exact North Western corner if the neighborhood.

Whether it’s technically in Sunnyside or not, it is close enough. All the schools in Sunnyside are in lockdown mode. This is a relevant news for Sunnyside Post. Thanks for reporting.

This was an intra-Amtrak dispute which tragically turned deadly. Good police work in tracking down the shooter.

Yesterday there was an after-school scuffle at the 7 train entrance at 47th Street and Queens Blvd. which nearly turned deadly. A large group of kids were taunting one boy and the fight spilled into westbound QB traffic, right near Jimmy’s office. A passerby said these fights happens daily. 108th cops need to monitor this before it turns deadly.

Once again blacks and Hispanics committing crime. The facts are the facts! Stop denying it. Maybe more studying and less fighting and more would be admitted into Stuyvesant. I don’t see the Asian kids fighting in the streets after school.

get rid of the guns

More guns=more homicides and suicides. Sadly, if this guy didn’t have a gun, we would probably just have a guy with a black eye and hopefully another who gets help with his mental health issues.

Guns don’t kill people , people with guns kill people including themselves. If it wasn’t a gun it could have been a machete or a knife then we would have to ban knives

Knives are already banned in NYC…but I agree with you. Why do we ban bombs? Bombs don’t kill people, people do.

Employees (other than LEO’s) are already forebidden from having firearms on company property. The rules are already in place and they didn’t stop this from happening. The strictest of gun laws won’t, and don’t, stop violent acts from being committed. Please don’t drag your personal political agenda into a workplace violence incident.

It was a work place dispute, a personal matter stupid. Here are the most dangerous states in America for 2019 according to FBI.
New Mexico
Alaska
Louisiana
Arkansas
Tennessee
South Carolina
Alabama
Arizona
Oklahoma
Missouri
These are almost all Republican conservative strongholds, move to one of these places.

So if a “crime”happens at a job site, it’s not a “ crime”? Because they were on the job? So if I rob someone st my job, it’s not a crime , just a labor dispute? Lol, you have 4+(at this moment ) of your identities agreeing with yourself. There is help out there for you.

Crime is down, near historic lows.

But don’t let facts get in the way of your “feeling.”

Obviously, crime is worrying and this and other recent events are troubling, but they do not necessarily show the whole picture.

Unfortunately, thanks to conservative gun nuts, other nuts can easily get guns, making crime worse when it occurs. Not to mention accidents and suicides.

Crime is nothing like it was in the 70s, 80s and 90s here. If you were here or if you are being honest with yourself and others, you would admit that.

As for nicknames, I have no idea what you’re talking about.

It’s kind of hard to report crime when we are rudely questioned by 911 operators and desk cops at the police stations. They are just looking for you to admit you are racist and the perp you are calling about is just black. Not assaulting women, not chasing children down the block, not throwing things at their mothers. Nope, it’s just our racist asses making all this crap up.

Dear Boss

Dear hmm very specific… So you obviously don’t know the tall, thin angry drunk homeless man who sometimes hangs around the 52nd street station and John Vincent Daniels square. He was doing just what I said above. And he was grabbing up women’s skirts AS I was on the phone with 911 about a belligerent and drunk homeless man harassing others. It was the last day of school and the children were now running about the square, riding bicycles and scooters. The 911 operator refused to send the police (I waited a half hour) and called me a racist.
