June 12, 2011 Staff Report

A convenience store is slated to open on 43rd Ave (bet. 43rd and 44th Streets) within the next month.

The store, which will be located at  43-25 43rd Ave., will be selling newspapers, candy, cigarettes, cigars, beer and lotto tickets.

The space was formerly occupied by Quest Realty, which closed at the end of April.

On this block, two restaurants will be opening this summer. Habibi, a Lebanese eatery, is expected to open next month; meanwhile, the Romanian Garden will be moving from Skillman Ave to this block in coming months.

🙁 With Met Foods and a convenience store a block away in one direction, and another market place a block away in the other, I’d be surprised to see this new store last a year. I agree with Lucky Lu here. I’d rather see some other type of store open (unique like “April Glass” for example).

Another dumpy convenience store is not what we need. I get really depressed seeing so many of these places around. I’m not sure how people are keeping these places open.
