The holiday season will be marked with an outdoor shopping market in Sunnyside’s Bliss Plaza this month, along with the return of a vintage trolley through the neighborhood.
The Bliss Plaza Pop Up Holiday Market will kick off on Nov. 24 and continue every weekend through Dec. 16, featuring a rotating lineup of local vendors and craftspeople right under the 7 train on 46th Street. The trolley, meanwhile, will operate on two Saturdays—one in November and the other in December.
The outdoor market, organized by Sunnyside Shines and the Queens Night Market, will offer gift items ranging from ceramics, artisanal candles, 3-D printed jewelry, handmade goods, and more. Food vendors will also set up on site, offering dishes like Burmese palatas and Romanian-Hungarian chimney cakes.
More than 30 vendors are expected to participate.
Market-goers will also receive a coupon book with savings to stores and restaurants in the neighborhood.
“Sunnyside is a great destination for food and fun, and our holiday shopping coupon book will allow market-goers to do all of their holiday shopping locally, and then enjoy dinner, drinks, or a manicure at one of our outstanding neighborhood merchants,” said Jaime-Faye Bean, executive director of Sunnyside Shines.
The holiday market follows Sunnyside Shines’ first pop-up market series that launched over the summer, also in conjunction with the Queens Night Market.
“We’re always looking to activate public spaces in a way that is mutually beneficial for entrepreneurs and the surrounding community,” said John Wang, founder of the Queens Night Market. “We had a great series of summer markets in Sunnyside, and are looking forward to collaborating on a successful holiday market at the same venue.”
The free trolley, meanwhile, is expected to run on Nov. 24 and Dec. 6. The vintage trolley debuted last year, and aims to help shoppers connect to local businesses in a festive style.
Market vendors and their details, along with information on the free trolley and its schedule, will be announced soon on Sunnyside Shines’ website and social media pages.
