Xio Lounge, a Sunnyside lounge bar, has been closed by the Health Department.

The owner of Xio was not available to comment on the bar’s closing. Furthermore, there is no word on whether it has reopened.

Xio has been subject to a great deal of criticism from neighboring residents in the past.

For instance, several residents claimed at a police precinct meeting in April that the patrons of Xio would walk into their courtyards to smoke pot. The police made a number of arrests following the complaints—and few complaints have been reported since.

All I can say it’s about time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good riddance …cya… GOODBYE!! I would like to thank Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer for all the help he extended to the nearby residents with ALL of the issues we had there. Any establishment opening there should name it “NEXT” cause it aint going to last long!!

Maybe Lucy was one of the “entertainers” who worked at Xio and is now unemployed? Her statement is confusing.

I love the Irish pubs and I’m not even Irish! I’m half Puerto Rican and half Italian.

@Lucy

Maggie Maes is “disgusting?” I’m not a big drinker, but on rare occasions when I do, I always go there because it’s clean, quite and everyone is super polite. What on earth is disgusting about it?

@ Circle K – the “Who Cares?” comment refers to the fact that nobody should care that it’s closed because it is a crappy place anyway that doesn’t add any real value to this neighborhood. You decided to read those two words and interpret them in your own way. Now go back to your circle jerk…

Before this was Xio it was a nice bar, the person that is responsible for Xio has managed to bring in a new and unwanted crowd and clearly doesnt feel the need to keep a clean working enviroment. Let’s hope it stays closed until someone capable is able to takeover and turn it back into somewhere worth drinking.

“Who Cares?” What a jackass you are.

Problems about this place are numerous and concerning to many who live nearby. I took a photo this past Friday night of about 150 motorcycles parked in front of Xio at that corner (39th QnsBLvd). that would notmally not bother me if there weren’t as many (about half that number) bikers loitering outside, smoking cigarettes, weed, and makjng it difficult for passers by.

Place is destined for trouble, and the block doesn’t welcome it!

The other night they had a bunch of bikers , all partying at 11:00 at night. If I lived close to that bar I probably would have done what I can to set it on fire and make it look like an accident. Seriously the bar is crap and the people it invites are crap eating flies. The most vile disgusting STD ridden garbage that you could find in the streets.

Who knew there are so many different kinds of flies? Looks like a concerted effort to enforce various laws is dealing with a neighborhood nuisance. How long before the anti-police loudmouths get the City Council to pass laws so that the rights of ratholes like Xio are protected and allow them to sue to get money from taxpayers?

Can Queens’ food scene thrive with both trucks and restaurants?

Aug. 19, 2025 By Jessica Militello

In Jackson Heights at 4 p.m. on a Thursday afternoon, Roosevelt Avenue is buzzing with energy as commuters file in and out of subway cars and onto the street and cars and trucks grapple to get down the busy road. The street is filled with rows of shops and restaurants, along with food carts, street vendors and food trucks along the avenue. The almost-but-not-quite the weekend lag leaves hungry commuters faced with another choice to make throughout their day and the array of food truck options in busy areas like Jackson Heights offers customers convenience and delicious food without breaking the bank, two features that can feel vital, particularly with rising costs of living and pressure from inflation.
