Woodside on the Move (WOTM), a non-profit group that has served the western Queens neighborhood for decades, is moving to a new headquarters at the end of the month.
The organization is moving from its current address at 39-42 59th St.(second floor) to 51-23B Queens Blvd. at the beginning of October. The move was prompted by the non-profit’s landlord who is developing the site.
Danny Shui, the property owner, filed plans with the Dept. of Buildings earlier this year to transform the two story office building into a 3-story, 11-unit housing complex. The plans, which include medical offices on the ground floor, were approved July 3, 2019.
The organization’s main office will be closed from Sept. 23-27 and from Sept. 30 to Oct. 4 to facilitate the relocation, according to Michael Vaz, executive director of WOTM.
Vaz said that WOTM’s housing department will be closed for the next few weeks. He said that WOTM wouldn’t be able to work with clients on a regular basis until it has completed the move.
He said that the organization’s afterschool programs, which operate out of four Woodside public schools, will not be affected by the move.
WOTM offers an array of services, such as adult computer classes, free tax services and legal workshops, which often covers immigration law. The non-profit’s housing department helps thousands of residents with housing-related issues each year.
