A woman was racially abused and sprayed with water in an anti-Asian bias attack on a Long Island City street in May, police said.
The victim, a 55-year-old Asian American woman, was walking her dog in front of Chase Bank, located at 24-16 Queens Plaza South, at around noon on May 22 when she was approached by the suspect who splashed her with water from a bottle and made a racial slur, according to police.
The suspect, a female, then fled the location. The victim was not injured.
Police said the incident was unprovoked and did not reveal what the suspect said to the victim. They released video footage of the suspect taken from the location of the incident Sunday.
The perpetrator is described as being in her early 20s, with an average build and a medium complexion. She had short black hair at the time of the incident and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses, a blue shirt, gray pants, and gray sneakers.
The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the incident as an aggravated harassment hate crime.
Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). So using a racial slur and throwing water on someone is considered a hate crime. What about just using a racial slur or just throwing water on someone? I need to know when its considered a crime so i can call the cops.
Susan – Throwing water on someone is actually “assault”. What’s up with your need to insult someone?
Water was dumped on cops last summer and no arrests were made. The cops just walked away and the video went viral. Try calling the police if someone throws water.on you and let us know if they spend time looking for the suspect or even file a report. Have someone call you a racial slur (not a white slur) on the street and cops must react. Or else they will have protesters outside their precinct for a week.
A bit hypocritical coming from someone who says Susan should have “stated in school” lol
May 22nd? Seriously?
