Sunnyside’s first ever restaurant week is scheduled to take place early November, with 17 restaurants signed up to participate.

Each restaurant will offer a three-course dinner menu for $25, with some also offering a two-course lunch menu for $10.

The event, organized by Sunnyside Shines, begins on Monday, Nov. 4, and concludes on Friday, Nov. 8.

The participating restaurants span the globe–and diners will have the choice of Japanese, Turkish, Irish, Italian, Romanian, Mexican, Paraguayan, Thai and Nepalese on any one night.

There will be a number of contemporary artworks that will be placed at four restaurants. The art is being curated by No Longer Empty, a contemporary art organization which recently staged an exhibition in the Clock Tower in Long Island City.

Restaurant week will kick off with an opening reception on Monday, Nov, 4, at Venturo, which is located at 44-07 Queens Blvd.  Italian artist Carlo Steiner will be at Venturo attaching holy bread wafers–cut into the form of butterflies–to the interior walls.

Meanwhile, that evening, artist Ann Katrine Senstad will park a funeral car outside of PJ Horgan’s with a neon sign that will read: ‘Tears on a Coffin’.  A mariachi band will be playing to celebrate loss.

The other artwork will be placed at Nodus and Malingo.

“We hope to draw new people to the neighborhood as well as inspire Sunnyside residents to discover new art and restaurants they haven’t tried yet,” said Rachel Thieme, executive director of the Sunnyside Shines.

Thieme said that restaurant week is not replacing Taste of Sunnyside. She said Sunnyside Shines plans to hold a bigger, outdoor ‘tasting’ event in May.

However, if restaurant week goes well, “we will definitely hold another next year,” Thieme said.

The participating establishments for restaurant week are:

1. Arriba Aribba*

2. Bliss 46 Bistro

3. Bliss Street Station*

4. Bucharest Restaurant*

5. Dazies Restaurant

6. Dee Thai

7. I Love Paraguay

The business model is crap!

As Craic Dealer says:
Ok ok… SOME of the restaurants its a deal… others its overpriced.

Massively overpriced some places. You would be well advised to wait UNTIL the week is over to get a better-ie., the usual deal!

Can’t these idiots formulate a more attractive promotion?

Venturo has GREAT food. I had a pasta dish with an amazing ragu sauce last night. homemade pasta, and the sauce had short ribs, pork, and ground beef. 12 bucks.
