Rory and Ciaran Staunton (source: Pat Dorfman)

April 2, 2012 By Christian Murray

Prominent local businessman, Ciaran Staunton and his wife, Orlaith, have lost their son, Rory, age 12.

Rory fell ill last week and was hospitalized. He then died suddenly over the weekend, according to a message sent to members of the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce. Lynch’s Funeral Home has not yet released details on the funeral arrangements.

Staunton is the owner of Molly Blooms and a strong advocate for bettering the business environment in Sunnyside.

An argument is a petty squabble. A debate is an overblown petty squabble. A debate with Rory Staunton was a sporting event.

And here I thought that I’d be the one with the most passion for politics in this school… Rest in peace Rory. Best damn debater I ever had the honor of sitting across the room from. The few months I knew you were much too short.

Sorry for your tragic loss, Our heartfelt condolences, we were just reminising with our 12 year old son Sean about the times he playing basketball in St. Mary’s with Rory, while we ate lunch in Molly Bloom’s, during the wake for my father-in-law at Lynch’s funeral home on Sunday.
We pray nightly that Rory may rest in peace.

Ciaran and Orlaith – please accept our sincerest heartfelt condolences to you and the entire Staunton family
Rory’s life should be celebrated for the bright light that it is. It would be nice to plant a beautiful tree or bench and schedule a fundraiser to benefit a worthwhile children’s charity in his honor. God Bless!
