Sunnyside Resident and Businessman Passes Away Tuesday

Nov. 22, 2018 By Christian Murray

Paul Tripodis, a lifelong resident and local businessman, passed away at his Sunnyside home Tuesday.

Tripodis, a realtor and husband to Linda S. Tripodis of Merit Group & Associates, died at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 20 from a heart attack.

Tripodis, who was born in Greece and came to the U.S. when he was 4, has lived in Sunnyside for the past 40 years. He graduated from Bryant High School and attended the New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury.

In recent years, Tripodis worked alongside his wife Linda at Merit Group in Sunnyside. However, he was known by many residents for his time working at the now-closed Post Coffee Shop, which was located on the northeast corner of 40th Street and Queens Boulevard for decades.

Tripodis is survived by his wife Linda who he married 31 years ago.

Friends say he was known for his great conversation, joyfulness and smile. They created a GoFundMe page in his honor.

His last wish was to be an organ donor. Linda made sure that was a reality. His eyes were donated to a blind child Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held at Farenga Funeral Home, located at 38-08 Ditmars Blvd. in Astoria on Friday Nov. 23 from 2 p.m. to  4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to  9 p.m. There will be a final viewing at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Paul married my cousin Linda Santini 31 yrs ago in N.Y.City as they were blessed to find each other in a place that never sleeps…It is rare that 3 members in our family Paul included birthdays are celebrated on the same day Nov. 19th…Receiving a video text from Paul n Linda celebrating in a NY eatery, Sang happy birthday to me, not just thinking of himself as always and then leaving us with our hearts broken on the 20th…The world is not a better place with this loss…Condolences to you all…Love Dino n Kerry Santini
