Sunnyside Gardens Park Hosts Fair this Saturday

The 2011 Memorial Day Fair

May 25, 2012 By Christian Murray

The Sunnyside Gardens Park Memorial Day Fair drew a crowd of nearly 2,000 attendees last year—with many lured to the event by its arts & crafts, barbecue food and plethora of children’s events.

This year’s Memorial Day event will be held on Saturday, May 26, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. It is open to the public and is one of the park’s biggest fundraising events of the year.

There will be bouncy houses, a rock climbing wall, an obstacle course set up by the YMCA, face painting, and arts and crafts, including sand art. Live plants will be on sale.

New York Life will be on hand to fingerprint children and create identification cards for their parents.

At 12:30 p.m. there will be a DJ and Zumba, followed by a clown at 1:30 p.m and Bingo at 3:30 p.m. There will also be basketball “shoot out” competitions for 8 to 10 year olds at 1 p.m., 10 to 12 year olds at 2 p.m., 13 to 15 year olds at 3 p.m. and 16 year olds and older at 4 p.m.

Local photographer Kristin Burns will be taking photographs from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Barbecued hamburgers, veggie burgers and hot dogs will be on offer– as well as a number of side dishes. In addition, homemade desserts, Starbucks coffee, beer and non-alcoholic drinks will be available.

In the event of rain, the fair will be held on Sunday, May 27th. Admission is free, but food and tickets for activities need to be purchased.

Sunnyside Gardens Park is located at 48-21 39th Avenue.
