A stylish new craft beer and cocktail bar is set to open this week following a four month renovation.

The establishment, called The Woodlot, will occupy the former Cuckoo’s Nest location at 61-04 Woodside Ave. in Woodside.

The Woodlot is owned by Irish proprietors James and Leanne Moore, who also own Maggie Mae’s– a  popular bar located in Queens Blvd. in Sunnyside– with Sean Sorohan. The Moores are partnering with Maggie Mae’s bartender Amanda Jacoby on this new venture.

“I always loved the old Cuckoo’s Nest and the owner’s lease expired so I thought it was an opportunity to branch out,” James Moore said.

The bar will have a similar layout as the Cuckoo’s Nest–although the 2,600 square foot venue was gutted for the revamp. The exterior has also been changed. It has been painted with a dark navy–with “The Woodlot” painted in yellow overhead.

“I designed the bar and James got the work done,” Leanne Moore said. “He managed and organized the job from start to finish.”

The venue can cater to up to 140 people and there will be comfort food on offer. The menu will also include vegan choices.

The bar will also focus on hand crafted cocktails with natural ingredients– as well as local craft and mainstream beer.

The proprietors have received a great deal of encouragement since announcing the new bar on their Facebook page.

“We have received a great response from the community and they seem as excited as us for a new bar and restaurant in the area,” Leanne said.

The bar was named The Woodlot, since it is located on a site that was once set aside for trees when Woodside was initially cleared for farmland.

The Woodlot’s hours will be Mon – Sun, 11 a.m. – 4 a.m.

I would have like to have invested. A celebrity owner could have really helped the bizness.
