A 30-year-old man who was riding a scooter in Long Island City Wednesday evening is in critical condition after being struck by a hit-and-run SUV driver, according to police.

Police say that the 30-year-old was riding his scooter westbound on 44th Drive when he was hit at the intersection of Vernon Boulevard and 44th Drive.

The motorist, who police believe was in a black Porsche SUV, was travelling south bound on Vernon Boulevard at around 6 p.m. when he struck the scooter. The driver then fled the scene.

The 30-year-old was ejected from his scooter as a result of the collision, sustaining severe head trauma.

EMS responded and transported the man to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue where he was listed in critical condition last night.

Police said Thursday morning that the man’s condition is unchanged.

So many hit and runs lately. With so many private and city cameras around you are bound to get caught eventually unless you are using fake paper licence plates. Just what are people thinking and running from? You can now see and smell weed being smoked on every street from many drivers. How is legalizing weed going for ya?

I think you know nothing about weed. It’s a narcotic and long term usage will damage the health of those using it. It’s a small example of how our government doesn’t care about the health of its’ citizens. I see drivers smoking nearly every day as well as bikers, e-bikes etc. The local construction site workers near me in LIC are always smoking and last summer they tipped their crane. I’m sure pot played a big role in that accident. You should educate yourself and speak to any doctor including neurologists about the long term effects of this drug on the body and the brain. Especially for those with developing brains.

Tim – You’re kettle calling the pot black. To quote the AMA, and pubmed“ Marijuana is complex chemically and not yet fully understood, but it is not a narcotic. Like alcohol, marijuana acts as both stimulant and depressant, but it lingers in body organs longer than alcohol. Smoking marijuana can injure mucosal tissue and may have more carcinogenic potential than tobacco.“ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3009708/

Weed brings you a temporary mirage of joy. Find something that brings you real joy. My suggestion is some kind of outdoor exercise you can do at least 3x a week. Get yourself out there and replace fake happiness and contentment with real happiness and contentment. Working out clears my head and makes me feel good about myself in ways drinking alcohol and smoking weed never did. Exercise also makes you realize that alcohol and weed destroys your athletic ability and mind. It’s all making you weak, fat, and lazy. Alcohol is a type of sugar. Weed gives you the munchies. You might as well be eating doritos all day. Routine physical exercise will help your body realize all this. Medical marijuana i am fine with. Choice is yours though.

Better yet, do both: Exercise and smoke a little grass or have a drink afterward. Why decide? We don’t need to be puritanical, just sensible.

Make alcohol illegal!

Agreed, it’s not safe to drive when under the influence of drugs. So we should make alcohol illegal, right? ?

But gullible Republicans still believe in myths fairytales and conspiracy theories

The definition of gullible is someone who would believe a liberal would actually believe that. Than again, if you can get people to dance around and sing about invisible gods, you can get them to believe anything.

City Council passes bill shifting broker fee burden to landlords, sparking backlash from real estate industry and key critics

The New York City Council passed a landmark bill on Wednesday, aiming to relieve renters of paying hefty broker fees — a cost that will now fall on the party who hires the listing agent. Known as the FARE Act (Fairness in Apartment Rentals), the legislation passed with a veto-proof majority of 42-8, despite opposition from Republicans and conservative Democrats.
