New Yorkers are still being hospitalized with COVID-19 in large numbers, with a significant number of them living in three hard-hit areas of Queens.
Governor Andrew Cuomo released a list today of the top 10 neighborhoods/zipcodes where the newly-admitted COVID-19 patients live. Among the top 10 zip codes for hospitalizations over the last seven days, three are in Queens.
The neighborhood that accounted for the most new hospitalizations over the past seven days is in the Bronx. The 10467 zip code accounted for 100 new hospitalizations.
Two Queens neighborhoods, Far Rockaway and Corona, ranked second and third respectively, while Elmhurst came in eighth.
There were 95 residents of Far Rockaway who were admitted into hospital for COVID-19 in the past seven days. Meanwhile, that number was 86 in Corona and 69 in neighboring Elmhurst.
The state identified the zip codes and compiled the list as it looks to identify areas where it needs to deploy resources.
Cuomo noted that the neighborhoods on the top ten list are predominantly minority and low income communities.
“We’re going to focus on those zip codes, we’re going to focus on those communities… and that will really bring the numbers down in New York City,” Cuomo said at his daily briefing today.
The move comes as the state focuses its coronavirus response efforts on New York City — now that it’s the only region in New York State which is not yet ready to reopen.
The mid-Hudson region began reopening today and Long Island begins its reopening process tomorrow.

At the present time I reside in an Assisred Living Program. Because of the freakin lockdown by Gov. Coumo I have been in a one room studio for the past 10 weeks with food delivered by Hha’s 3 x a day!!!!. Because of this crap 21 people have died! We cannot go out of this facility.I belong to a community garden where I pay $200.00 per Season just to organic garden. So far Every Gardener has the right to be in their garden and follow a protocol. Except Me. I am very angry! I wont be able to garden this year if I dont get out of here Soon!!! It will be too late to plant because my seedlings will be pot bound!!!!! I worked very hard from Feb . Planting my heirloom vegetables and e ery day I pray that this freakin LOCKDOWN WILL END! or the $$$$ will be spent for naught! That is alot of cash!!! I live on $200 per month after my Ss check a d my smallpension goes to this place to live!!!! Come on coumo get with the program .More seniors have died here being confined to this building. The Sun in my 200 square foot garden is much healthier to be!!!!Everyone is extremely angry and fustrated. All other seniors can at least go to the store to by food. We cant. And most hate the food they serve daily!!!!!! LET US OUT! WE Are Not a Nursing home and we all ambulate and are high functioning enough to go out by ourselves !!!!!!!
I STILL THINK THE CITY AND STATE NEEDS TO STEP UP THE HELP MORE FOR THE BLACK AND BROWN COMMUNITY.
SURELY, THEY WOULD HAVE TREATED THE WHITE COMMUNITY WITH MUCH MORE URGENT.
THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT US ELECTION TIME.

Gerry- I guess you’re limited on your travel experience. There are homeless in every city and every state. It has more to do with lack of comprehensive psychiatric coverage. Nothing to do with Democrats or Republicans. The US uses its prison system to warehouse our mentality sick. That’s why every warden in America has filed for psychiatric financing. Please read up on the crisis instead of politicizing.

Why didn’t DeBlazio put the proper support in these communities? They are living in apartments, they have been outside alot and he knew it. I am suspect about his decision making. Remember it took 6 weeks to figure out the cleaning the subways might help, again poor decision making , and why?

Mr LIC- How about the highest crime states all being Republican according to FBI statistics. How about the lowest wage states all being Republican according to ADP payroll and US Census. How about all the states with the most uninsured working Americans being Republican with Texas being the state with the most and highest rate of uninsured according to AMA.
In corona and Elmhurst most are immigrant from Latin America , Bangladesh and India. They came illiterate and from bottom classes of theirs original countries , for better opportunities in Great US.Contrary in China most are Chinese no foreign refugee and workers.
Many of these people lost their lives for us. They drove our trains, cared for our ill, sold us our groceries. Respect must be paid.
I’m amazed at the numbers in low income neighborhoods. These people haven’t traveled abroad. The virus came from China and spread to other countries. How is it just low income neighborhoods, who’s spreading this virus in the low income neighborhoods. These people hardly travel.

Wearing a mask (universal masking) is still the best way to stay protected. (Staying home is even better) Especially since we’re reopening the country and everyone is going out. Look at Hong Kong Singapore, and South Korea. They all wore masks. And they recovered the fastest.

Corona and Far Rockaway have a lot of old age facilities which is a major factor. Thanks to Cuomo’s idiotic decision to send covid patients back to these facilities, thousands more were infected with fatal consequences.
But at least we know that Mama Cuomo makes a mean spaghetti and meatballs.
