Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards cross endorsed one another Friday as they both seek reelection.

The pair made the announcement in Astoria Friday and pledged to tackle a number of projects in western Queens, which is part of Maloney’s congressional district.

They said they would work together to secure funding to complete the bike and pedestrian lane expansion on the Queensboro Bridge; maintain the Astoria-East 90th Street ferry route; expand the NYCHA skilled trades pilot program; and add 3-K sites in western Queens.

Maloney said it has been an honor working with Richards for the past year and was proud to endorse him for re-election.

“Donovan was elected to office in the middle of a crisis, and from day one he served the people of Queens with dignity and compassion,” she said. “This past year has been one of the most challenging our city has ever faced, and our rebuilding from the COVID-19 crisis will be no easier. We need leaders like Donovan in office, and I need him as a trusted partner in the City while I am in Congress.”

In turn, Richards said he was grateful to have Maloney’s endorsement and glad to support her campaign as well. He will be running against Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer and Elizabeth Crowley, a former city council member, in the Democratic primary June 22.

“Carolyn Maloney has been a steadfast and effective leader in government,” he said. “I’m honored to have her support and to continue to support her as our Congresswoman.”

He cited her long record of helping constituents in his endorsement announcement.

“Time and again, Congresswoman Maloney has led on issues important to New Yorkers. She sponsored the Zadroga Act to get compensation and healthcare to 9/11 first responders and she’s secured hundreds of millions of dollars for infrastructure in Queens, including the new Kosciuszko Bridge.”

Maloney is running for re-election in the 12th Congressional district. The election is set for 2022.
