Police Shoot Drugged-Out Man in Maspeth Who Lunged At Officer With Knife: NYPD

A man who was wielding a knife was shot twice by police at 54-55 64th St. in Maspeth Friday (NYPD and Google)

Jan. 11, 2021 By Christian Murray

A 41-year-old man who was high on crystal meth is in critical condition after being shot by police in a Maspeth home Friday, according to the NYPD.

Police received a call at about 6:20 p.m. from a family member of the victim who said that the 41-year-old was hallucinating inside the Maspeth house and was destroying the basement.

Officers arrived at the 54-55 64th St. home and found the man in the basement with a family member. Cops tried to tell him that he needed to go to hospital before the 41-year-old pulled out a knife and lunged at one of the officers.

One of the officers deployed a taser while another fired two rounds at the victim striking him twice, according to NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan. The man was taken to Elmhurst hospital in critical condition.

Police said that officers were called to the same address at 10:50 a.m. earlier in the day and the 41-year-old was also hallucinating. He was taken to hospital but was released a few hours later.

Cops said that they were also deployed to the Maspeth house on Jan. 6 when the 41-year-old was also hallucinating.

What does that have to do with the article? And either way when did looting and rioting happen in Sunnyside or Maspeth?

Do not jump to conclusions. The race of the person that was shot was not mentioned on the news.

Since they were called earlier in the day they knew they were dealing with someone mentally ill. Social workers should of been sent to the location the first time and the second time. This shooting could of been prevented.

@Margarita..do you think it’s remotely possible that the social worker may have been killed by a drugged up knife wielding individual?

More likely, the social worker would have been knifed. We’re we told they would not be called to deal with violent people. Clearly, this person does not fall into that category.

Therein lies the lesson. Anybody or any situation can turn violent in a heartbeat and without warning.

This is common sense, an attribute do-gooder liberals lack in abundance.

We don't want dead police, like at the Capitol

You’re right, unless it’s the nation’s Capitol the police would be much more effective

i agree. send the social workers in first. and if they get stabbed by the killer, oh well, deblasio will let him out in 24 hours with Mets tickets and a gift card.

He’s hallucinating, yet when taken to hospital is put back onto the streets a few hours later.

He was brought to hospital for care before being released – some doctor had to sign off on it being ok to release him. So send in the cops to clean it up and then blame them for being attached with a knife… yeah yeah its all the cops fault, again!
