This is a neighborhood blog, it’s not NY1 with a huge, full-time 24/7 staff chasing down every story. Give the guy a break.

At 4am, with those streets empty, cars book it down queens blvd. The cops are too busy giving out tickets to kids for enjoying summer nights in the park to be concerned with the potential problems of the blvd.

While it is possible that the man crossing was drunk its also possible he was just getting off of a night shift, or even on the way to work. Nonetheless, sadly nothing will come from this, it’s shameful.

It’s not the Boulevard of Death it’s the Boulevard of Natural Selection and Darwin was right. Let the left side of the Bell curve and people who are full of themselves off themselves.

Just sayin…

Webley, the people I see running against the light hoping to beat the oncoming traffic are indeed stupid. Even more so those with kids and baby strollers. I did not refer to the people who cross sensibly but still get hit by reckless drivers. I stand by my statement.

Oliver Klozeoff, you need to check again, there has been many times where someone ran red light while all other lanes were at a stop, I always tell everyone, do not cross until all cars stopped, do not cross especially when there is one empty lane. It has nothing to do with stupidity, the only stupidity would be assuming everyone will come to a stop.

Also it has improved a lot since they installed delayed green, but there are still cars crossing in red because they look at walk sign not the red light.

On the other hand they made a big mess when they closed off some of the roads now cars pile on certain intersections like 44th and 39th. They always try to turn and when the light turns Red, they get stuck on pedestrian crossing, when cars start moving they just blow the light and turn left anyway, putting people in danger, and also misleading the driver behind them into thinking he can also move.. So once again, take a look at the intersections before claiming people are stupid or idiots..

It’s not the Boulevard of Death, it’s the Boulevard of Stupidity.

If challenging 4 lanes of city traffic and gambling with your life to avoid waiting at the corner for a few seconds isn’t pure stupidity, then please tell me what is.

I’m not saying that’s what happened to this man, I don’t know, but I have certainly seen scores of idiots over the years play Traffic Roulette on this urban race track.

Why are there no traffic cops on queens blvd checking the speed limits of motorists? That would probably involve actually having to WORK! Much easier to give out tickets for expired meters I guess

I live in Sunnyside for 21 years. Some people are too brave crossing the bully. I’ve seen 2 people get hit here. Both were walking against the light! Not too smart!

Rikki, I completely understand and agree with you. Pedestrians in sunnyside take first place for worst at crossing streets world wide. Drivers are not always at fault. Also check the daily news, they stated the pedestrian ran the blvd against the light.

Even though your point is fully correct, it doesn’t stop New Yorkers from doing it. I feel the same way too deep down inside! New Yorkers can’t rid of this jaywalking habit. This city needs to stop jaywalking completely and follow the walk signals as they should as they are there for a reason, not take them as little decorations and think of it as a waste of time like the majority of New Yorkers do! It’s no wonder Europe and and other intelligent places take them for a reason while New York City takes it for granted, and by saying jaywalking is a God given right by many New Yorkers is pure devil talk as God is smart and would never do something that will take your life away.

Oh, the paralegal who argues with witnesses and thinks it’s her job to argue with and dispute the observations of witnesses, because it’s “her job.”

The person who blames pedestians for their “stupidity” for causing their deaths by “talking on their phones” and “pushing their kids” into traffic, thereby causing their deaths.

The paralegal who is “focused on details:” what happened the second of the accident and the 30 seconds prior to the accident!?!? – (this is what paralegals do!) In “11 states” no; 40 states! pedestrians are stupid!

Oh please. You are not a lawyer because you haven’t passed the bar- you file and get coffee and do administrative work.

You seem to assume drivers are never at fault, contrary to all evidence. You seem to think elipses are an appropriate form of punctuation…

Rikki, you are not an authority until you prove yourself. Either sh!t or get off the pot.

why does everyone assume the driver is always at fault?

plenty of pedestrians want to kill themselves or hope to get hit for the insurance money.

Trust me after living in sunnyside for years i am surprised how few people get killed…. Ive never seen so many pedestrians violate the law and i’ve lived in 11 states and driven in at least 40 …the amount of stupid people on their phones and even pushing their kids against the light its amazing how they survive….

Do we know if the pedestian had the right-of-way? I wish they would enforce the speed limit around here- so many motorized vehicles speeding recklessly through a neighborhood filled with pedestrians and bicycles. It’s not fair. Take the expressway if you want to go fast.

This is very sad. One person dead and one critical. people have this idea that they can run across queens blvd and make it. It’s actually a very big problem in this neighborhood. People have no regard for a don’t walk sign.

I’m not surprised Ruben is smearing a dead man before knowing the facts: he’s been hating on motorcycles and bicycles lately. He’s so impotent that all he can do is take cheap shots. Do like everyone else does and ignore him.

Whatever the circumstances, this road is incredibly treacherous. Please, please, please, be mega careful when you cross.

I see people trying to scoot across against the light and beat the on-coming traffic. I’ve even seen this done by people with kids. These people are flirting with disaster just to save a few seconds.

I was there, the motorcycle guy was speeding he tried to dodge the pedestrian but end up crashing into him

Suggestion for previous commenter: how about waiting for more facts before smearing a dead man?
