Meet the new precinct commander, town hall meeting Thursday

Captain Ralph Forgione

Jan. 23, 2017 By Christian Murray

Residents will get the opportunity to meet the new commander of the 108 police precinct Thursday at a town hall meeting organized by two elected officials.

State Assemblywoman Cathy Nolan and Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer are hosting the meeting just three weeks after Captain Ralph Forgione was named the new head of 108th police precinct, which covers Sunnyside, Woodside and Long Island City.

The meeting will be at Sunnyside Community Services, located at 41-31 39th Street, from 6:30pm through 8pm.

Forgione, who replaced the popular Deputy Inspector John Travaglia earlier this month, has spent most of his career in Queens.

This is Forgione’s first time as a commanding officer, spending several years as an executive officer—or second in command—at various Queens precincts. He was most recently the executive officer at the 114th Precinct in Astoria. Prior to that, he was an executive officer at the 111th Precinct in Bayside; the 110th Precinct in Elmhurst; and 112th Precinct in Forest Hills.

Forgione takes the top job at a time when crime in the precinct has been on the decline.

The crime rate for the precinct—based on the number of reported major indexed crimes—has dropped significantly. Crime was down about 4 percent for 2016 (through December 25), compared to the same period in 2015.

This guy looks exactly like the other one.

White.

Law enforcement loves trump. I expect more stop and frisk, resisting arrest charges, and broken window policy taken to the extreme. Regardless of DeBlasio. The Police union does whatever the fark it wants. Always has.

We need to demand that the 118th takes serious action to reduce speeding, running red lights and other traffic violations. Protect our families!
