The police have arrested a man who was wanted for a fatal stabbing in Woodside during the early hours of Monday morning.
Olmedo Osorio, 46, of Maspeth, was arrested by police late Wednesday and charged with murdering 55-year-old Freddy Jimenez on the corner of 69th Street and Roosevelt Avenue, according to police.
Osorio allegedly stabbed Jimenez in the stomach with a sharp object following a verbal dispute at around 2:45 a.m. He then fled the scene eastbound on Roosevelt Avenue, police said.
Jimenez, of 71st Street in Woodside, was transported by EMS to NYC Health & Hospitals/Queens where he was pronounced dead.
Police are still trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding Jimenez’s death. However,
NYPD sources say the pair had been drinking together prior to the stabbing and were both intoxicated.
It isn’t clear where the pair had been drinking before the attack nor what prompted it.
Osorio, of 52nd Avenue, was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
Melony Silva, a relative of Jimenez, launched a GoFundMe page Thursday seeking donations to help cover funeral costs. She is looking to raise $10,000.
Silva wrote that Jimenez was a well-loved and caring individual.
“He leaves behind so many people who truly needed him,” Silva wrote.
“Most importantly he leaves his elderly mother whom he selflessly took care of for so long. We are all so devastated, heartbroken and shocked that this happened.”
