An LGBT center in Woodside will begin offering an array of services geared toward LGBT youth in a new program starting today.

The LGBT Youth Drop In Center, the name of the new initiative, will be located within the AIDS Center of Queens County offices at 62-07 Woodside Ave., with a focus on helping homeless and at-risk LGBT teens and young adults between the ages of 13 and 24.

Free services available as part of the program include hot meals, shower and bathroom facilities, and education and job readiness programs. Staff at the site, for example, can help youth prepare for their GED or apply to college, and find job fairs.

Other services include help with immigration and legal services, and a space for creative arts and recreational activities. Urgent medical and mental health care services will also be available, including alcohol and substance use counseling, PReP/PEP, and HIV testing.

Rosemary Lopez, ACQC Executive Director, said the new center will be a safe and supportive space for LGBT youth—a population often at-risk.

“It is a privilege to join with our community partners in celebrating the opening of this special facility, and a duty for ACQC to open and operate this unique and much-needed center in Queens,” Lopez said in a statement.

The drop in center will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Wonderful. A much needed service in the community. Wish it was there when I was young.

Hey Johnny:

You better watch it or me and my friends will be demonstrating in front of your apartment with a mariachi band. We will have you investigated and you will be on the front page of the Post.

Anonymous – Don’t worry your low wage job doesn’t generate anything to any tax payer funded program anyway, you’re exempt. The tens of millions of gay Americans and relatives and friends of gay Americans who contribute with donations and taxes are “paying for this”.

@anon- Don’t worry your tax dollars are still funding state sanctioned executions, torment of mentally ill and mentally challenged people in the American psychiatric system run and maintained by the Correctional system and funding of Federal Visa Programs assuring your relatives, friends and neighbors wages are kept nice and low. All the programs that you hold dear, that hurt and harm your fellow Americans are secure.

Tree- Is a private bathroom really that upsetting to you that you need to obsess over it? What did you do when sidetracks put in private or “gender neutral” or “handicap” bathrooms in many years ago? Fox News has a good useful idiot in you.

Tom Boy..to complain and call someone a idiot, how nice of you.
As Ben Franklin once said.
Any idiot can criticize, condemn and complain – and most idiots do…

Tree if liberty, it looks as if you got yet, another one wrong. In political jargon, a useful idiot is a derogatory term for a person perceived as a propagandist for a cause the goals of which they are not fully aware and who is used cynically by the leaders of the cause.
