A newborn infant was pronounced dead yesterday after responders found the child unconscious in a small Long Island City hotel, according to police.
The baby girl was found lying unconscious and unresponsive by EMS inside a hotel room at Days Inn, located at 31-36 Queens Blvd., at around 7:40 p.m. on July 18, police say.
The responders took the infant and her 35-year-old mother, who was at the scene, to Elmhurst General Hospital, where the baby was pronounced dead on arrival just before 8:20 p.m., an NYPD spokesperson said.
No arrests have been made in the case, and the investigation is ongoing.
An NYPD spokesperson could not provide information on what could have lead to the child’s death, and said it is pending a report from the New York City Medical Examiner.
The 35-year-old mother had reportedly been living at the hotel since April, and the room she stayed in was found with “drug paraphernalia,” according to the New York Post.

Slowly but surely the Debaslio admin has crept up on everyone in every neighborhood in every economic class. Your progressive politicians are MIA and people are just now starting to complain. You missed your chance by voting this mayor out. Now ream the whirlwind.
Wow, you have to be a special kind if a$$ to read this article and decide to post a clueless fascist rant in response. You’ll die sad and alone, you know. No one will miss you or care.
Too bad more people didn’t vote for Bo Dittle. He seemed like a smart fella.
Used to be no complaints. Now look, complaints all over the city! A real shame
from the day DeBlasio took office he ruined new york city for good – and that is the truth
Yep. No one ever complained before DeBlasio. Anyhow, it’s a tragedy when a child dies.
I made my first complaint in 2017.
Can’t complain about the mayor. When it was time to vote for a new mayor people were too lazy to go out to vote because it was raining that day.
U will never stay at that hotel.
When my wife was ALMOST raped, and 108 took 53 min.to respond last November at LA QUINTA INN,I myself took charge in the investigation…..
108 COMMAND did squat..and LET me tell you all..NO POLITICIAN NOR POLICE BOSSES GIVES A DAMN..CONFRONT THE ANTI CRIME GUYS AND TELL THEM TO REJECT THEIR C.O. TO NOT MAKE ARREST..IT ALL COMSTAT AND THE REGULAR P.O s will not go against their House Commander for FEAR OF TRANSFER….SIMPLE..NUMBERS ARE ALL THE COMMAND WANTS TO HIDE
See that’s why I stay at Holiday Inn Express instead
If all you ignorant NAME calling people read my postings since last November, about these Hotels you would not be blathing now..I TOLD YOU ALL AND THE 108 COMMAND..I AM NOW VINDICATED..NAME CALLING IDIOTS…YEAH IN BOLD TYPE FACE…YOU SHOULD HAVE ALL LISTENED..BUT NO!!YOU COMMENT ON SPELLING MISTAKES..MY GOD…SO SAD..
I’m sorry I didn’t listen to George Kelly.
These liberal weirdos don’t care about the ordinary peeps.
George, I think you meant blathering, and ALL CAPS, not “bold typeface.”
QNS is reporting the child was born some months prematurely. That seems like an important detail…
If the child had health problems, she certainly should not have been at a “shelter” with a drug addicted mother. The hospital and the Administration of Child Services dropped the ball – again. Not a word from Jimmy Van Bramer who is probably putting on his pussy cat and going on another march across the bridge because he is angry or something. We have real problems in this neighborhood and we have zero leadership. Not from Van Bramer, not from Nolan, not from Gianaris. Boot them all out.
Prayers
Just awful
Drug paraphernalia?
Not surprised
Is this a new homeless shelter ?????? under who’s authority and why was it not mentioned to the neighbors
A baby girl left with a drug addicted mother ? Nice going acs
Another child doomed
Another child dead in a NYC Homeless Hotel Shelter in Queens. A hotel room made for short stays is not a home. The is criminal. JVB will you show your face for this photo op? May this child rest in peace.
Yes it is a homeless shelter.i lived their for almost 3 months.staff is nasty.if you complain about drug use, only threats for things done.and yes it is paid for by the city.
Did you live there with George Kelly?
Wyndham hotels know about this homeless situation and still keep their name? Aren’t they supposed to mention this somewhere on the hotel. “Welcome to our hotel, oh by the way, we are also a homeless shelter”. We need to start reviewing these hotels on Yelp/etc and let people know that they are not real hotels, despite the name at the door. (Unless they changed names and sold them to sketchy out of state shell companies already)
Why would you review them on yelp
We have a Mayor who twice ran on the slogan”Tale of Two Cities”. Five years and approximately $15 Billion of taxpayer money expended on homeless services later, today’s news reports on an infant in the City’s homeless program dying for reasons unknown in a hotel not built or equipped for long term family occupancy. Coupled with the criminal actions of deBlasio’s appointees to NYCHA regarding lead paint and children, it’s fair to say the Mayor has turned municipal treatment of the less fortunate into Dante’s Inferno. May the soul of this child Rest In Peace.
It’s hard to believe that no one has commented on this yet. Could be that it is so awful that it leaves people speechless.
this is another homeless shelter that Mr. MIA JVB knew all about and never told his constitutents about and even the hotel did not know she had a child – very sad for the child she is in heaven and away from all of this
Homeless hotels costing city millions with drugs, SAD. With King Cuomo & Mayor DeBlowsio have no plan for correction.
The only thing King Cuomo and DeBlowsio are capable of is pointing fingers of fault at each other and public squabbling like children. Cynthia Nixon’s close alliance with DeBlowsio makes me question if I should give her my vote even though King Cuomo is likely as unethical as politicians come.
This is the 2nd baby found dead in a Queens Blvd hotel. Living there since April. Way to go Mayor D! If this was a biker, there be hell to pay.
God help us. What a terrible tragedy.
