Former CNBC Anchor and Sunnyside Resident to Challenge AOC in Primary

(Caruso-Cabrera for New York)

Feb. 11, 2020 By Allie Griffin

A former CNBC anchor and Sunnyside resident will challenge Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for her Congressional seat in the Democratic primary election.

Michelle Caruso-Cabrera today announced her run for the 14th District, which covers Astoria, College Point, Corona, East Elmhurst, Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, Sunnyside, Woodside and parts of the Bronx.

“I’m running for NY-14, to fight for the people of Queens & the Bronx, daughter of Cuban immigrants and living the American Dream,” Caruso-Cabrera said on Twitter.

Caruso-Cabrera worked at CNBC as an anchor and reporter for more than 20 years. After leaving the network in September 2018, she continued to serve as a contributor, but will take a leave from that role for the duration of the campaign, according to CNBC.

The former CNBC anchor responded that she lives in Sunnyside when asked by a reporter on Twitter.

Caruso-Cabrera supports limited government and fiscal conservatism, as shown in her 2010 book titled “You Know I’m Right: More Prosperity, Less Government” — positioning her to the right of socialist-leaning liberal firebrand, Ocasio-Cortez.

Ocasio-Cortez shocked the Queens Democratic establishment with her win over longtime incumbent Joe Crowley in the June 2018 Democratic primary.

Caruso-Cabrera and Ocasio-Cortez are two of nearly a dozen candidates vying for the Congressional seat.

The primary election is slated for June 23.

The Economy is doing well because of President Obama’s efforts to Bailout the Failing U.S. Auto industry & Wall Street’s Failed Banking Mortgages! Obama Saved this Country from a Disastrous Depression; and Now we are seeing the Results.
As usual Trump tries to take Credit for something he didn’t do!!
Criminal Trump is a Total Con man Scam Artist.
Trump is a Failed businessman, Pathological liar, his business Model is to: Lie, Steal, Cheat; Lie, Steal, Cheat & Repeat!
There is Nothing wrong with working as a Waitress, Bartender or in the Food Service industry. These people work 12 to 14 hours a Day. They’re under paid & over worked. And the Majority are Immigrants. How many of you Haters can do this work??
If Dictator Trump has his way & Deports all Immigrants, our Economy, without a Doubt, would Collapse!
As for AOC, everyone has to Start some place!
AOC is No longer a Waitress/Bartender but a well Respected, Hardworking Congresswoman! As we have just seen at her latest Highly Attended Town Hall Meeting; Educationing her Community about the Importance of the 2020 Census. See it @her Facebook page.
So, if you want to Call her Lazy & Stupid, you First Need to look into Mirror, and be Reflective of who you are!!

MCC should check out NYDN article 2/22: “AOC sees tragedy on many levels in arrests of three teens for the stabbing of Barnard College student Tessa Majors”

Speaking in Queens, AOC is not sure if the teens belong behind bars. Guess she thinks there’s good people on both sides of the murder.

The economy is roaring under Trump. People like Ocasio-Cortez, the bartender, and Sanders, want to destroy it. Unfortunately a lot of stupid lazy people who are obsessed with race agree with them.

I’m voting for AOC; she’s the best thing to come along in Queens politics is a long time. I’m impressed with her intelligence, her voice of authority, and her ability to enrage the right, to the point where they can’t wait to pounce if she makes a misstep. The fact that this happens so infrequently annoys them so now they’re making stuff up, hoping that the gullible old school voters will believe what they hear on Fox “News.”

AOC will Crush MCC in any Debate and in Voting Numbers!
MCC speaks as a Republican but masquerades as Democratic, so Now we all Know!
But Again, Trump must be Removed from Office, this Insane – Maniac is Racist to the Core and Truly Believes he is a “Killer & a King” as his Father told him. He’s No “King” but certainly is trying to Kill our Country behaving exactly like a Dictator, similar to those he Admires : Vladimir Putin!
Vote November 3, 2020 and send all those Corrupt politicians back to where they came from!!

Mia, right now there are only two viable challengers to AOC in the Democratic primary. MCC lives in Sunnyside, and the other councilman lives in the Bronx.

All the others will compete for the Republican primary.

@Dylan-What exactly has she accomplished? I am a lifelong Democrat and resident of the district she represents and not happy with most of the stands on issues she has taken. I will not be voting for her. She strikes me as a self proclaimed victim in search of revenge. Have they found this friend, relative or neighbor of hers who was involved in a stop and frisk yet?

As a minority I’m not sure why would someone vote for AOC as this country’s wealth was produced by a more centrist stance in the economy. Yes you can tax the rich a lot one year and then maybe the next but then the rich are not stupid — they will either move somewhere else or close the business, taking the jobs with them.

A lot of commenters here are saying that Michelle Caruso-Cabrera is not as liberal as AOC. As if that was the only criteria that one should be elected on. If one only talks about chasing business out with their taxes how will that benefit this person’s constituents? We need a level-headed person to stand up for us, not someone whose only program for survival is to attach itself to someone rich and tax them to death. The goal should be to produce more of your own than to take more from others, which is a race to the bottom.

AOC will win easily – she is passionate and hardworking – debates will be good for us – don’t forget Crowley stole democracy in our District for 20 years – he never won his seat in Congress legitimately- he was appointed by the Queens Machine – and then they bullied all viable candidates off the ballot who tried to oppose him . AOC got rid of corrupt Crowley – and brought back democracy. We should all be grateful to her and I am sure she will crush the debates , line she crushed Crowley in the debate he showed up for.

Jerry, AOC doesn’t need money. Over $5 million in her coffers already. Click on the last link in the article.

Cabrera just moved to Sunnyside recently so she could run against AOC. Just like Crowley who lied that he lived in Woodside, but actually lived in Virginia for over 10 years, and used his mother’s address. All phony.
Cabrera is essentially a Republican – she was very anti-Obama. No way she lives in Sunnyside.

I read that AOC will be a guest judge on Ru Paul’s Drag Race. I and many people love that show. I am sure AOC personality will shine and bring more media attention and support for her and her campaign. You Better Work!

I travel throughout the country for work. And AOC has helped put District 14 on the map. All need to tell people is that my boyfriend and I live in AOC’s district and overwhelmingly most reactions and interactions are so positive. I am proud of her work and love telling people that she is fighting for the people in her district and beyond. I agree with her stances when it comes to healthcare, housing, education and criminal justice reform. Good luck AOC! You definitely have my vote!

Arvin, There will be a debate. Hopefully more than one since Queens and The Bronx are separate planets.

That is if AOC can find time in her Sanders campaign schedule.

I’ve listened to Michelle Caruso-Cabreraon on CNBC for several years. She talks like a Republican and I always thought she belonged on FOX news. She’s been very critical of Democrats and President Obama.

I have no doubt that Gabrera will destroy AOC in a debate, but I also doubt she will be able to overcome AOC’s voting base.

Cortez received 78% of the vote in the 2018 General Election. She defeated the long time Democratic incumbent, in the Primary, by over 14%. Those are long odds for any challenger. This District is D+29, and the only people I ever hear maligning her, don’t live here.

This seat goes Dem no matter what. So i do not care who wins. Her name recognition will be a tough hurdle though.

There is pretty much zero chance of AOC accepting a challenge to debate MCC on the issues..AOC will probably ignore MCC the same way she was ignored by Crowley

What’s weird is that the rest of the developed world view politicians like AOC and Sanders as moderates. America is lagging behind. But this in NYC and AOC will remain in office.

I do not know anything about Michelle Caruso Cabrera and I do believe AOC is smart in her in own right. As a 30 year old female minority, I think she is a part of a group of younger female politicians that are rightfully and impressively changing the political platform. That said my vote goes to AOC.

AOC has been credited for changing the democratic game in politics. The supporters in her district will show up to vote for her. Michelle and others do not have a chance. Most people stay home during these elections. Melinda Katz won by 60 votes agaisnt Caban. Realtors tell me they often have come across tenants that ask to see places in AOC’s district ever since she was elected.

Doubt MCC is going anywhere. AOC has almost 6 million Dollars in her War Chest, all from small donors.
But this is Not the Race we need so much to Concern ourselves with.
We Absolutely must Remove “Lawless Trump”, to save our Nation’s Democracy.
We can’t Survive this Megalomaniac Dictator for another 4 years.

The Democratic Party political machine will do whatever they can to keep the likes of Bernie Sanders and his supporters out of office. Now they are pushing Bloomberg on to us in the media and by for example, allowing Bloomberg to tout his relationship with President Obama in an add because they saw Biden has no chance. Its entertaining.

If this election were less crowded Caruso-Cabrera might have a chance. The votes from people who disagree with Ocasio-Cortez will be to scattered.

If how well Bernie is doing is an indication of future democratic elections Michelle Caruso-Cabrera has no chance agaisnt AOC.

Few registered voters show up for these type of elections. My guess is that the majority of those who support AOC will vote and those that do not will not even bother to vote for anyone else or a small minority will. That is how the mayor and AOC got elected. During AOC’s first campaign I had three different supporters show up at my door asking for her support. That does not even happen during a Presidential election!

She has a better shot at running on the Republican or Independent line in the general election. All the lefties will show up in the primary for AOC.

I hope she wins. If she doesn’t, I hope she considers running for Sunnyside/Woodside City Council Seat for 2021. We need fresh representation for this area at all levels, both nationally and at the state and city levels.

What good has ever come for working people or much of anyone or anything else except the rich from limited government or fiscal conservativism? That’s what Republicans like Trump, the Bushes and Reagan identified as and they all blew deficits and debt thru the roof, helped to wreck the unions and rolled back all kinds of environmental and financial regulations, and are back, now attacking SS, Medicare, Obamacare and Medicaid. How’s all of that working?

The number of grand larcenies across Queens was down during the 28-day period from March 18 to April 14, compared to the same period of time last year, according to the latest crime stats released by the NYPD Monday. At the same time, rapes and robberies decreased significantly in northern and southern Queens, respectively.
