Fire Breaks out in Woodside Home, Four People Seriously Injured: FDNY

July 24, 2020 By Michael Dorgan

Four people were seriously injured – including a young girl – after a fire broke out inside a house in Woodside early Friday morning.

The victims were inside a two-story house on 64-05 35th Ave. when the blaze started, police said. Some of the victims were trapped on the upper floor, according to the FDNY.

The FDNY was alerted to the blaze at 12:12 a.m. and sent out 12 units consisting of 60 firefighters, a spokesperson for the FNDY said.

Firefighters pulled the victims–all female–from the inferno and they were all transferred to nearby hospitals in critical condition, according to police.

The young girl and a 24-year-old victim were transferred to Elmhurst hospital, police said.

A 56-year-old woman was transported to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Queens, while a 32-year-old woman was taken to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, police said.

All four victims are now listed as being in a stable condition and are expected to survive, police said.

Four firefighters were transferred to hospital with minor injuries, a NYPD spokesperson said.

Firefighters got the blaze under control at 2:02 p.m., according to the FDNY.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and is not considered as suspicious. The FDNY released video footage of the fire’s aftermath.

Why is it that every time there is a house or apartment fire nobody ever says that a smoke alarm went off? If there isn’t one, the owner is breaking the law. It’s senseless when people die in fires when an alarm could have gone off and warned them to get out.

TBH, there should be alarms in all rooms connecting to each other.

If a fire is in anywhere else in my apartment in the middle of the night, I’m toast.

On the TV news I heard it was a faulty extension cord that was overloaded with AC.

Wow!

ACs do not belong in a regular extension cord. They make special ones that are for one heavy duty appliances.
