Filipino Restaurant in Woodside Shut Down by Health Dept., Third Time in Less than a Year

Jan. 12, 2018 By Tara Law

A popular Filipino restaurant located in Woodside was closed by the Health Department Wednesday for the third time in less than a year.

Kabayan, located at 69-12 Roosevelt Avenue, was ordered by the department to close—temporarily–after racking up 84 sanitary violation points when it was inspected on Jan. 10.

The inspection revealed several sanitary violations, including evidence of mice or live mice and for a lack of “personal cleanliness.” Other violations include storing food at incorrect temperatures.

The closure is not an isolated case.

The restaurant was temporarily closed by the Health Department in May and August.

Kabayan was hit with a whopping 117 violation points by the department when it was inspected on May 18. Several of the violations were the same as those recorded on Jan. 10, including inadequate personal cleanliness. The inspector authorized the restaurant to reopen after a re-inspection on May 23.

The restaurant was shut down again on Aug. 15. The inspector slammed it with 77 points, and cited violations such as roaches and flies. The restaurant was authorized to reopen after an inspection on Aug. 23, during which it received 15 violation points.

Kabayan’s Sunnyside location, at 49-12 Queens Boulevard, was closed temporarily by the health department on July 29, 2016 when it was hit with 116 violation points. It reopened soon after.

Specifically these guys clearly didn’t learn their lesson the first time. The funny thing is that I was once called a racist because I said that I tend to avoid Asian establishments because too many of them get closed down by the city. For those of you who thought or think that, keep eating at these places

This is the way they live in the old country, Ever notice how middle easterners will not even have AC on, or barely on in the store on a hot summer day?
