A 35-year-old man was killed in a car crash on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway yesterday.
Jesse McCalip, of Staten Island, died of his injuries after his 2020 Hyundai Elantra was struck by another vehicle and slid along the concrete wall of the expressway near Exit 39 – Queens Boulevard at about 8:45 p.m. Monday, police said.
Arriving officers found McCalip pinned inside the Elantra with severe body trauma. The FDNY got him out of the car and EMS rushed him to NYC Health & Hospitals Elmhurst, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
McCalip was attempting to merge into the far right lane of the eastbound BQE when his vehicle was struck by a 2017 Dodge Charger. The Charger hit the rear of the Elantra, causing it to slide along the concrete wall until it spun around in the opposite direction of traffic, according to the NYPD Highway District’s investigation.
The 20-year-old driver of the Charger remained at the scene and was not injured, police said.
There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

This is a horrible on ramp merge right there. Charger must have going fast on right lane, and other probably didn’t obey the stop sign enough. Also it gets super narrow right after this merge.
Now that people stay home, there is barely any traffic. NYers drive like maniacs when they see open road. They absolutely cannot handle when it’s clear. By roads are not designed for this, they are meant to be driven slow and in traffic.
