Dec. 10, 2011 By Christian Murray

A man was shot early Saturday morning following an argument that broke out between two men at a Sunnyside Mexican restaurant, according to police.

Eladio Espejo, a 26-year-old Hispanic man, allegedly shot the victim in the arm and thigh shortly after he had been involved in a verbal exchange with the victim at Restaurant Azteca, located at 47-16 Greenpoint Ave., according to police.

Espejo and the victim got into a argument at the Mexican restaurant and then Espejo left the restaurant and waited for the victim outside, according to police. Espejo allegedly shot the victim after he left the restaurant at 5:37 am. The victim was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital where he was treated and released.

The police are searching for the whereabouts of Espejo, who is believed to be 5′ 9″ and weighs 160-200 points. They are calling on the public to call the NYPD tip line at 800-577-TIPS

I hope people don’t start to post about how pot is harmless and how selling it should not be a crime – I am thinking of the poor police officer, father of four daughters, who was gunned down in Cyprus Hills, Brooklyn. These criminals are cowardly punks. Petty crime leads to larger crimes.

This kid in the picture is done, I seen this kid plenty of times in the hood. This kid has no life and roams around the street either hanging in the corner coked up or driving some car staring ppl down like hea somebody. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. Hes nothing but a cancer to society and deserves to be dead. I know the guy who wa shot personally and I know some of you might know him as well. This kid guasa is a punk and would’ve got his ass beat bad if he would’ve shot a fair fight. Anyway, this is a senseless act by some punk kid who has nothing going for himself but the pen.

sweeney – Yes, shootings happen in NYC. But very rarely in Sunnyside/Woodside and THAT is why we live and raise our families here. I CARE about my neighborhood and what happens in it. Violence only a few blocks from me is something that I and my community care to END.

The fact that people do care about “just a shooting” on this forum says a lot about the goodness of our community.

It’s so sad and pathetic how people will shoot others over some argument. Goes to show how uneducated they are. They don’t have any type of knowledge as how to carry a conversation or to put someone down so the first thing they do is reach for a weapon. I really hope they catch that guy, chances are somewhere someone knows him and doesn’t speak up. No one is free from violent actions and as always it will one day catch up to him…maybe he won’t be shot, but he has a family, the same way the victim has a family ..and they will suffer too.

All I can say is that Sunnyside is okay. It’s not the Upper East Side but it’s not Bushwick either. Now that being said, you have to be cautious because there are bad people in Sunnyside that I can’t wait for the police to get rid of. They are destroying our peace, image & everything else. I hope they find him. It’s sad to see my neighborhood being destroyed.

@ webley, you are an ass. You should have been in the hood in 1985, that was bad, if you think this hood is getting worse and worse, your soft like melted ice cream. Leave the hood if things are so bad and that comment of a drug deal gone wrong, your assumption sickens me, its people like your that give my neighborhood a bad image. Like Sweeney said all your people are talking out your ass, get a job.

I agree with No! Racism in the comments is intolerable. Sunnyside Post, don’t let this issue taint the great job that you are doing.

Christian: Isn’t there a way to delete the racist posts that have begun to litter your comment sections? It really puts me off. You shouldn’t give these people a forum.

Two people having a beef with each other, in the wee hours of the morning over something personal between them, that leads to violence is more of a reflection of human nature. It isn’t really a reflection of the area. However, random acts of crime and violence ARE.

I guess sunnysdie is no different than any other area. But we do have alot less crime in our little town than other areas

We are a pretty safe town..if you pay attention to the monthly police resports the numbers that are givien are quite low…we do have quite a safe town and with some very nice people living here..the good should not have to suffer for the bad… and happy holidays to one and all

And yes, there are a lot of racist comments on this site…not a reflection of the blog itself or the writers though, IMO.

Brooklyn man indicted on manslaughter, DWI charges in deadly Astoria crash that killed the mother of his child: DA

A Brooklyn man was indicted by a Queens grand jury on charges of manslaughter, drunk driving and other crimes for a fatal collision in Astoria that killed his long-time girlfriend and mother of their young child in February.

Ray Perez, 27, of Caton Avenue in Flatbush, was arraigned Thursday in Queens Supreme Court on a 13-count indictment charging him with vehicular manslaughter for allegedly speeding through a stop sign in Astoria, colliding with another vehicle and slamming into two parked cars, and then driving nearly four miles away to a street in Maspeth before seeking help for his 29-year-old girlfriend Bridget Enriquez, who later succumbed to her injuries.
