A 4-story building in Woodside has been renovated and now 16 apartment units are available for rent.
The building, located at 39-21 57th St., was bought in 2018 by the Drouzas family who have spent more than a year overhauling the property.
“All 16 units needed renovations and TLC,” said George Drouzas, a contractor who was raised in Queens. “The original pipes and kitchen were broken; there were leaks everywhere; electrical broken; and parts of the ceilings were down. It was such an eyesore.”
George said the building had been mostly empty for years and that residents on the street welcomed the renovations.
The whole building has essentially been rebuilt, except for the existing brick shell.
“We put in new kitchens, bathrooms, hardwood floors, ceilings, electric and plumbing,” George said, whose family are developers in New York.
The revamp was completed in November and the units are now available for rent. The majority of the units are one-bedrooms and rent for between $1,625 and $1,725 per month. There are some studios that rent for $1,500. All come with one-month free rent.
The apartment building is two blocks from Roosevelt Avenue and about six blocks to the 52nd Street and 61st Street subway stations.
The units are ideal for couples, according to Filippo Gattoni, the leasing director for NY Spacefinders, an Astoria-based real estate firm that is in charge of renting the units. He said that the units are essentially brand new.
“We at NY Space Finders wish to congratulate the Drouzas Family,” Gattoni said. “The way they transformed this building is remarkable.”
The revamp also won praise from the CEO and founder of NY Space Finders Luca DiCiero.
“We truly enjoy leasing new construction developments but there is a certain charm to a renovated prewar building that is difficult to recreate,” DiCiero said.

I’m selling my house on 57th st in March. I want to stay in Woodside I grew up here. I have a dog. Are you pet friendly?
If this guy was smart…he would leave it vacant. Why take a chance renting when the politicians are telling people not to pay rent? Very risky
I would like to apply for a studio, for 1 person. Thank you

unless it’s a condo, most buildings in sunnyside are dilapidated with little to no insulation. they just call them “pre-war” so it sounds better. you’ll know which one’s they are by their poor efficiency grade posted on the ground floor.

Nobody wants to live in buildings and take elevators with random strangers. This is why private house rentals are much harder to find now.
