Council Member Julie Won, who was more than seven months pregnant when she was sworn into office in January, gave birth to her first child earlier this month.
Won announced Monday that she and her husband, Eugene Noh, welcomed their son into the world on March 11.
The Sunnyside-Long Island City council member shared a video on social media announcing the birth.
“11 days ago, we welcomed our baby boy into our family,” Won captioned the video. “Truly, we have never felt a love as deep and unending as this for our little one.”
The video follows Won and Noh bringing their son home from the hospital.

Won said their baby is healthy and happy and thanked everyone for their well wishes. They did not say what they have named him.
The council member has used her childbirth experience by bringing attention to resources for new and expecting moms. The list of resources includes things like insurance access, housing assistance for pregnant women, information on doulas and guides on childbirth, breastfeeding and nutrition for babies.
“With a deeper admiration and respect for every mother in this world, I am honored to be a mother and a Council Member, and I will bring this perspective to our city government as I know many of my colleagues have,” Won said in a statement. “As the first majority woman council, we have the opportunity and responsibility to create a better city for women by focusing on maternal health and universal childcare.”
The council member’s office remains open with full constituent services, while Won recovers.
“We are still running a full-service office and Julie is still attending meetings in line with her responsibility as council member, just with a lower public profile as she recovers and spends time with her child,” a spokesperson for her office said.
Congratulations Council Woman Won on becoming a New Mom🎉🌺💐
Many Blessings to You and your Baby Boy 🙏👼
This is not newsworthy. She is an interim city council woman who has been in office a few months and done nothing!
Wow, you even found a way to make this negative. Maybe have your therapist adjust the meds a little?
