Police are searching for two suspects who allegedly carjacked a man in broad daylight at a Long Island City gas station on Tuesday, April 18.
The 55-year-old victim was inside his 2005 Toyota Sienna at the BP gas station on Queens Boulevard and Skillman Avenue just before noon when the two male assailants stole the victim’s cell phone and wallet by ripping his vest pocket, according to police and sources.
The two suspects then stole the victim’s vehicle, and fled the scene in the Toyota, cops said.
Police said the victim’s wallet contained around $500. The victim was not injured.
There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
With 2023 shaping up to be the deadliest year for cyclists and pedestrians in western Queens since the implementation of Vision Zero in 2014, lawmakers gathered in Astoria to introduce a blueprint for street safety in western Queens, titled the Western Queens Street Safety Plan.
Queens was viewed as one of the top areas in the United States by renters throughout November 2023, according to the latest rental activity report compiled by the national real estate firm RentCafe. Queens is also the most popular rental destination in the northeastern region of the United States.
Three men were robbed at gunpoint in broad daylight in Sunnyside on Black Friday and police from the 108th Precinct in Long Island City are looking for the two men pulled off the heist before leaving the scene on a moped.
