Constantinides Likely to Run for Queens Borough President

April 16, 2018 By Christian Murray

Councilmember Costa Constantinides plans to run for higher office in 2021 and all indications are that it will be for Queens Borough President.

Constantinides held a fundraiser in Astoria last week and the highest donation sought was $3,850. That figure is the maximum allowed for the borough president race and well short of the $4,950 permitted for a citywide office such as mayor or public advocate.

The invitation to the fundraiser reads: “Costa Constantinides A Champion for Queens,” and adds, “I hope I can count on you as we expand upon our legacy and fight for higher office after my current term ends.”

Constantinides is in his final term as a council member and will be forced to vacate his office at the end of 2021. He represents the 22nd District that covers Astoria and parts of Woodside, East Elmhurst and Jackson Heights.

Constantinides would not confirm whether he was running for Queens borough president.  However, in a statement, he said: “Through my service on the City Council, I am proud of everything we’ve been able to accomplish for our community including better access to healthcare, new ferry service, and key investments in our public schools. I am committed to fighting for Queens and addressing the challenges that remain throughout the rest of my time in office. I am also eager to explore opportunities to continue to serve the people of Queens and fight for a brighter future.”

Constantinides’ fundraiser comes two months after Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer formed a committee and said he was eyeing a run for the borough president job.

Van Bramer is in his final term and represents Sunnyside, Woodside, Long Island City and a sliver of Astoria.

No no – You sound like you’re another informed voter. Keep withholding that vote from JVM that’s probably the reason why JVM has never won. Keep up the good work.

Will NOT vote for him. He supports “Dreamers” and Illegals! I have NO TIME to “dream” I have college loans to pay off for myself and my children! Also, medical bills that have to be paid out of pocket for conditions my VERY expensive health insurance policies refuses to cover, (medicare included!). He sure knows how to spend our hard earned tax dollars on people who came into our country ILLEGALLY!!!!!

Booya! You are tough as nails! Dreamers aren’t eligible for loans like the rest of us, so they don’t have no loan payments. He wants to take our moneys and give out free healthcares! Also, I where’s my medicare? I never got nothing from nobody — especially when i was on food stamps.

Can Queens’ food scene thrive with both trucks and restaurants?

Aug. 19, 2025 By Jessica Militello

In Jackson Heights at 4 p.m. on a Thursday afternoon, Roosevelt Avenue is buzzing with energy as commuters file in and out of subway cars and onto the street and cars and trucks grapple to get down the busy road. The street is filled with rows of shops and restaurants, along with food carts, street vendors and food trucks along the avenue. The almost-but-not-quite the weekend lag leaves hungry commuters faced with another choice to make throughout their day and the array of food truck options in busy areas like Jackson Heights offers customers convenience and delicious food without breaking the bank, two features that can feel vital, particularly with rising costs of living and pressure from inflation.
