AOC on Her Way to an Easy Victory, 2018 No ‘Fluke’

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (Ocasiocortez.com)

June 23, 2020 Staff Report

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who stunned the political world in 2018 when she was elected to represent the 14th Congressional District, has shown the establishment today that her victory two years ago was no aberration.

Ocasio-Cortez, with nearly 75 percent of the scanners reported, has a significant lead over her challengers Michelle Caruso-Cabrera and Badrun Khan. The incumbent had 73 percent of the votes cast, with Caruso-Cabrera 20 percent and Badrun Khan 5 percent.

The official results will not be known for days, since an unprecedented number of absentee votes have yet to be counted and they won’t be counted until June 30. Tonight’s unofficial results are gathered from in-person ballots cast Tuesday and during early voting.

Ocasio-Cortez had a point to prove and she campaigned hard. She issued a tweet at 10:33 p.m. as it become clear her lead was unassailable.

The campaign at times was heated. Caruso-Cabrera, a former CNBC journalist, put forward the narrative that Ocasio-Cortez did little to help her constituents—and was too focused on being in the national spotlight.

“AOC is MIA,” Caruso-Cabrera would say, adding that the incumbent worked against party leaders such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Ocasio-Cortez, as well as Khan, argued that Caruso-Cabrera was not a true Democrat, noting that she was a former Republican and her campaign was funded by Wall Street and big business.

The 14th Congressional district covers the neighborhoods of Astoria, Sunnyside, Woodside, Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, East Elmhurst, Corona, College Point and portions of the eastern section of The Bronx.

I hope she is more involved as time goes on, I voted for her when she went against Joe Crowley. My old rep the dummy representing my old distric Lower East Side Nydia Velasquez who is so stupid it’s appaling…. it’s amazing she’s been in office all these and she’s been voted in to office every 2 yrs. AOC is a rookie gets a pass she IS REPRESENTING OUR DISTRICT JUST FINE, BUT SHE MUST SUPPORT JOBS, LAW AND ORDER IF NOT SHE WILL DRIVE AWAY CONSERVATIVE/MODERATE Democrats. See what happened to CB2 councilman JVB nonexsistent persona non grata in this community, Lisa Deller going to run for his seat…..

Joe Crowley was dummy also – can’t even answer a question intelligently – he was corruptly appointed to his seat in Congress and then stayed because his attorneys – WHO STILL RUN THE QUEENS BOE- blocked it threatened any viable politician off the ballot . He thought he was untouchable and would sit in Congress for life – from his million dollar home in Virgina – lots of stupid people in Congress – at least AOC is intelligent?

I love how she triggers so many people. These folks should be packing their bags and moving maybe to Florida. She’s the future and you know it’s no fun living in the past. No one expects a first-term member of Congress to accomplish boatloads of projects- she’s rookie and stumbled a few times while finding her way. She has attracted lots of attention and people have noticed how on top of the issues she is and how unwilling she been to compromise or sell out. She’s been working hard and absorbing information and gathering alliances. Compared to her predecessor, she’s a breath of fresh air.

Love how Trump triggers so many liberal dems and socialists

Sure, she cares so much for her constituents, especially during election year. She supports open borders, crimes and human trafficking that come with it. She’s a breath of fresh air, communism is a novel idea to United States, but not to the rest of the world. Definitely will be moving out of her district and NY in general, because it’s just so great getting robbed and beat up by “justice warriors”, fed up with communist ideas of wealth redistribution through increased taxes and less services to those who pay for it. 3rd world country that everyone tries to flee, because of amazing human rights, prosperity and general well being of the average citizen.

I’m pretty sure Ms. Ocasio-Cortez isn’t going anywhere but up the political ladder. She’s intelligent and inspiring, not to mention popular. I get the feeling she’s sincere and almost always focused on the job at hand. I can’t see her goofing off on the gold course like some of our “leaders.”

Granted, there are those who do not like her and wish to see less of her. I suggest they move to another part of the country, maybe Oklahoma or Kansas. They’ll be happier there (until she assumes a greater and more prominent role in national politics.

What goes unreported here is that Ms. AOC, despite her constant droning on about the impact of money in politics, spent $6.3 million on this race vs. her opponent’s $1 million.

And AOC raised over $10 million. Where is all this money coming from? Who are the people behind this nobody who became on over-night media sensation? It’s amazing how many people are fooled by this obvious puppet. Who are the puppeteers?

Good question. But not relevant if you believe money can’t buy you votes like Michael Bloomberg’s use of his personal millions to run for the US Presidency. At the end if the day, you need to campaign for votes.

Her supporters actually took the time to go out and vote. That is key in any election. Most people who do not like any of the candidates stay home. I know this week alone I was approached by two of her campaign workers on the street. Her name was actually written in chalk all over the sidewalk by the subway reminding people to go vote for her on election day. Every since she won last time more of her supporters have moved in (mostly the young white liberal crowd). And the truth is for many longer term residents her name alone is famous, and people in NYC like many areas in the states like the idea of free healthcare and better pay. Queens is very diverse and you always have those people that vote according to identity politics and even more now and our local elections are starting to reflect that with more diverse people and woman running for office. Its a good thing.

This was unlike any previous election, in that absentee voting was expanded and encouraged due to Covid. Those ballots won’t begin to be counted until next week. Many of us who voted absentee took the time to vote too. Sad to say that many who are actively registered don’t bother to vote.

Per nyenr.elections.ny.gov, our congressional district CD14 has 225,829 active enrolled Democrats. For this election, only 39,477 voted as of 6/23. It remains to be seen how many absentee ballots have been properly completed and returned this week.

This is a problem for democracy, because the Board of Elections is controlled by Joe Crowley’s corrupt attorneys , who kept him in office illegitimately for two decades by blocking all viable opposition off the ballot, so he always ran unopposed. They let AOC slip by , because they were too arrogant to see how much smarter she is than Crowley was. Donovan Richards also has to be careful with vote counting at BOE since the Crowley attorneys run the show there, and , they were the ones who worked pro bono for Caban when she beat Katz, those lawyers and the Crowley family needed Katz, so she would turn a blind eye to their corruption in surrogates court , making millions.

Be careful with the absentee ballots ! warning to AOC and Donovan Richards – keep and eye on the attorneys Reich and Bolz. They know how to organize absentee ballots, and cancel many 0ut.

All these people have no reason to hate AOC other than she’s a Dem. and a woman of color.

I would love to be convinced why she’s so scary.

I hope not. I’m glad to see improvement in her explanation of her views. Much less ‘ghetto’.

Individual and middle class destruction

She is no Democrat. She is a socialist with crazy radical ideology, aimed at destroying the rights of United States citizens like private property, wants open borders, against immigration law enforcement, wants “free” health care, which is not free, higher taxes, waiting in long lines for everything, government controlled population, no one will be able to succeed and build wealth, except the politicians and the elite they serve not the average American. The Bolshevik dictatorship revolution is here. Good luck America you’re gonna need it.

The opposite, actually

You’re confusing Democratic Socialism and Communism. They’re not the same. AOC is a Democratic Socialist. She believes in a democratically elected government managing the economy so it can create wealth for the majority of its citizens, instead of the system we have now where super wealthy people buy elections to benefit themselves and other super wealthy people. Democratic Socialists don’t believe we need a violent revolution to overturn capitalism; they believe in working with democratic processes as they currently exist, except without the influence of super PACs and limitless money. They do not believe in abolishing private property. They do believe part of a government’s responsibility is to provide basic human needs, like housing, education, and healthcare. If you’re concerned about “individual and middle class destruction,” you should actually be rooting her on.

Entitled Liberal american, you literally don’t know how it is for the rest of the world that had socialists running their countries. The United States already has programs like welfare (many abuse), section 8 housing, unemployment benefits. Public schools in liberal aka almost socialists cities are horrible, but in Unites States you don’t need an education to become wealthy (kartrashians and many others). Regardless of that, many current and former socialist countries that provide “free high class education“ don’t have an established middle class and people live in poverty and have no basic needs like food or water at the turn of the faucet. United States is not perfect, but waaaaay better that many of the other countries. Its still the land of opportunity for every American of any race, yet some radicals trying to pin us against one another playing race wars. STOP! While socialism or even communism may be a noble idea, in reality it simply doesn’t work due to a simple fact – human nature. Someone is always smarter, stronger, wants more power or doesn’t care about it at all. You cannot deny this simple fact and that’s why we are not equal. In USA we have equal rights, that doesn’t mean we are equal as humans in our abilities. That is the beauty of it. People like AOC enjoy the liberties this country provides yet advocating against it. A cute bartender with high education that couldn’t find work went into politics, went radical to get more power and money, ultimate hypocrisy. Please do not lecture someone who went through a socialist regime when you have never experienced it. IT DOES NOT WORK! NOT EVER!

This machine kills fascism

Most European countries are socialist. They’re not doing so bad. UK? Medical profession are government employees. Germany? Free University education and Doctors are provided free education but they’re salaries are capped by the government. Many European countries have work councils. Look them up. Germany took in 1 million refugees which Merkel admitted was a mistake but it goes to show how being socialist doesn’t mean Germany cant be a manufacturing powerhouse.

You’re full of contradictions. You state there will always be people who are more powerful and want more power. Isn’t that the point to restrain them so they don’t amass wealth and power to use it in a selfish fashion harming maybe you in particular?

What socialist regime did you live under? What country did you immigrate from?

No fascists, communists, socialists or any other radical fanatics needed here

Why should America be like Europe, the opportunities for a person to succeed here is much greater, that’s why it’s called the American Dream. Many countries in EU are not doing so great, take a look at Portugal or Greece, UK left the EU. But you can relocate to Europe since they are doing better than US according to you. Statement regarding power doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have regulations, like I said USA is not perfect but better than almost every country in the world, especially the ones with indoctrinated radical believes and systems.

Linda

Just because you do not agree with or do not vote for a politician or candidate does not mean that you “hate” them. This way of thinking is part of the problem. You should be able to question and disagree with a policy or politician without being labeled negatively.

AOC is good for the District – she fights for the people of Queens and Bronx, and is not beholden to special interests , lobbyists etc like her predecessor corrupt Crowley , and Caruso Cabrera was a joke. She is a Republican, who switched and moved to Sunnyside from Manhattan 6 months ago, just to get the limelight of challenging AOC. Caruso Cabrera also very nasty in her demeanor, she went after AOC’s mother in a debate, very tacky. Pretty certain she will be moving back to Manhattan in her luxury apartment in Trump tower tomorrow. Good riddance.

Did you really believe Caruso Cabrera’s lies that she was a Democrat who loved Sunnsyide? It is common knowledge she moved from Trump Tower to Sunnyside 6 months ago, or were you unaware of the corrupt Crowley Machine, his family and cronies still earning, millions and millions in surrogate’s court and other side hustles related to their corruption? At least AOC is legitimate, and those who blame her for Amazon are very naive to believe a huge company like that would have been scared off by a a newly elected congresswoman who had not even taken office yet! They had other reasons. it was not AOC.

AOC is a Democratic Socialist, not a Communist. These are not the same thing. In a Communist system, private property is abolished. In Democratic Socialism, on the other hand, the means of creating wealth is owned and managed by a democratically elected government. Democratic Socialists generally don’t believe a violent revolution is needed to overturn capitalism, as Communists do. A Democratic Socialist system rewards innovation and individual achievement, whereas a Communist system does not. These are just some of the differences between the two. It’s pretty easy to look this stuff up; why not strengthen your own arguments by educating yourself?

Watch: Hero barber confronts gunmen in chaotic Corona barbershop shooting

Bedlam broke out inside a jam-packed Corona barbershop on Friday evening when a man sought refuge from armed gang members who chased him on Roosevelt Avenue before a hero emerged to confront the gunman and prevent bloodshed.

Police from the 115th Precinct in Jackson Heights reported that an unknown man entered Lagumas El Cache Barbershop at 103-17 Roosevelt Ave. just before 5:45 p.m. on Nov. 8 and started shooting at a man before leaving the location. There have been no arrests, and the reckless endangerment investigation is ongoing, police said Monday.
