Sunnyside Gardens Park Gets Funds From Con Ed

Con Edison of New York presented members of Sunnyside Gardens Park with a check last week to help cover the costs of the park’s overhaul. The amount of the donation has yet to be confirmed.

The park is in the midst of a two year redevelopment plan, which includes replacing the basketball courts, putting down new grass, to fixing the expensive drainage system– which has not been replaced in its history.

Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) joined community members and leaders at a presentation of funds. Crowley, a long-time supporter of Sunnyside Gardens Park, was invited as a guest of the Friends of Sunnyside Garden Park, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for the Park.

Sunnyside Gardens Park is one of two membership parks in New York City.

Queens elected officials secure $70 million from New York State Budget for school safety equipment in religious and independent schools

Religious and independent schools throughout the city will soon receive additional funding for school safety equipment, thanks to Assemblymember Andrew Hevesi and State Senator Michael Gianaris, who, after extensive advocacy efforts, successfully secured $70 million from the New York State Budget for 2024-25 for Non-Public School Safety Equipment (NPSE) grants.
