A 19-year-old woman was killed when she was struck by a teenage driver while walking in front of an auto-shop in Jackson Heights Thursday evening.
Sara Perez, of East Elmhurst, was fatally struck on the sidewalk by a 16-year-old male in a Ford F-150 pickup truck at around 4:50 p.m. when the driver entered into the Northern Lube and Tire Shop at 106-15 Northern Blvd.
According to reports, Perez was pinned between the front bumper of the pickup truck and a wooden wall.
EMS responded to the scene and discovered Perez unconscious and unresponsive with trauma to the head. She was transported to NYC Health & Hospitals/Elmhurst, where she was pronounced deceased.
The 16-year-old driver remained at the scene.
There have been no arrests at this time. The case remains ongoing and is being investigated by NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad.

You have to be so careful when walking sidewalks for on coming cars. I almost was ran over twice from someone pulling out an international supermarket parking lot right on the sidewalk on 23 ave and 35 street in Astoria.
The traffic laws need to be changed. If you take somebody’s life in a traffic accident you need to pay. If you don’t get jail time then your license needs to be taken away for ten years or more. This 19 year old lost her life and this 16 year old will most likely face no punishment. He will just go on with his life and she will have been robbed of hers.
Tragic. Hard to not draw parellels between this incident and the death of the deliveryman on Honeywell St. Bridge in October by a teen in a pickup truck.
But I’m pretty sure the legal driving age in NYC is 18, not 16 like it is in the rest of the state.
And this is the reason why.
He’s just an undocumented driver.
