A COVID-19 vaccination site will open at Citi Field on Wednesday with half the appointments designated for Queens residents.

The long-awaited city-run “megasite” will be open 24/7 and have the capacity to vaccinate 5,000 to 7,000 New Yorkers each day.

Half of the appointments for the ballfield site will be open to eligible Queens residents and the other half will be open to TLC licensees and food delivery workers, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Monday.

Those eligible can begin making appointments online or by calling 877-VAX-4NYC today.

The Citi Field vaccine site was supposed to open the week of Jan. 25, but was delayed due to the city’s shortage of vaccines. De Blasio said that it would open in “a matter of days” on Friday, when a similar vaccine site opened at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

“Citi Field — this is one that we’ve been hoping for a long time to get up and running…,” de Blasio said. “This is going to be great for the people of Queens”

Called at 11:30 am this morning (2/08) for an appointment in queens and was told there’s nothing even though I am eligible being over 65. Inquired about citifield and was told it was fully booked until Saturday within 10 minutes and no new appointments being taken. Maybe the extra class 2 people such as cab drivers, etc should be sent to Yankee Stadium. We older people in Queens will never get vaccinated at this rate. Not that our mayor or governor cares.

Good for you for wanting to be vaccinated! The demand for vaccines is strong, but there isn’t enough supply yet. The supply will increase and new vaccines will be approved. Please have patience.

Op-Ed | Hochul: Action is Imperative on Shoplifting, but Violent Crime is Just Fine

Apr. 29, 2024 By Council Member James F. Gennaro

Negotiations regarding the New York State budget have just concluded a few days ago and a budget has passed after more than two weeks of delays. But while Gov. Kathy Hochul has proclaimed this year’s ‘bold agenda’ aims to make New York ‘safer,’ there hasn’t been so much as a whisper about the safety issue New Yorkers actually care about – New York States’s dangerous bail reform laws and the State’s absence of a ‘dangerousness standard,’ which would allow judges to detain without bail those defendants that pose a present a clear and present danger to our communities. (The 49 other states and the federal government have a dangerousness standard. NY State is the only state that lacks this essential protection from the State’s most dangerous offenders.)
