BJ’s Wholesale Club will open a Long Island City location early next year, the company announced Wednesday evening.
The bulk goods warehouse store will open on 48th Street, taking the spot in the Plaza 48 mall that was once home to National Wholesale Liquidators. The news that BJ’s was opening in the area was first reported last year.
The shopping center sits where Long Island City, Sunnyside and Astoria meet. The new store address will be 34-60 48th St.
BJ’s Wholesale Club requires customers to become a member to shop. The national chain sells grocery items in bulk for about 25 percent lower than other grocery store prices, according to a release.
The Queens store will feature a vast selection of fresh foods and household essentials like paper products, cleaning product and pet supplies, as well as a full-service deli counter.
The store will also carry clothing, toys, seasonal items and new tech items.
Members can shop online for in-store pickup or same-day grocery delivery as well.
The Long Island City location marks the company’s 45th store in the state. The Queens store and another incoming store in Newburgh will bring a combined 300 jobs to the region.
“We’re thrilled to expand our presence in New York and bring outstanding value and savings to families in Long Island City and Newburgh,” said Lee Delaney, president and CEO, BJ’s Wholesale Club.
A Burlington Coat Factory is expected to move into Plaza 48 as well, but an opening date has yet to be announced.

I haven’t had the opportunity to go to BJ’s because Astoria does not have BJs store. I am delight to go in when opened to the public.

Exellent a good stores BJ’s. In this area I Hope opening soon we need to get a BJ’s.

I like both Costco and BJ’s, but you have to know your prices. Some of the same items are much cheaper at Costco. Glad BJ’s is coming to the neighborhood!
luckily, after you’ve paid for your membership, you can go across the street to Stop & Shop and pay less for the same food.
That Stop & Shop is really a Slop & Drop. They need to clean up their act.
No one pays attention to the guidelines of one way aisles or 6ft. Well, how can they.wjtn the signs aren’t translated into all the other languages????
Clientele are the problem (much as their neighbor store Marshalls.). People are heathens and don’t know how to behave much less teach their children how to behave.
I once went at Burlington’s
to see what they have & less than 5 min walked out . It reminded me of a thrift store . Rather had Target or Walmart . Why Burlington ???

Would be great if membership was free. Or at least free for the poor and minorities. Hopefully they will hire locally and speed up the opening before the second wave. Their toilet paper packages are huge.

Also, BJ’s themselves call it the LIC location.
I can’t wait. It would be much closer for me to shop instead of going to Middle Village all the time.
This location is clearly not in Long Island City. It is Sunnyside/Woodside. How does a local paper make a mistake like this??
Fullmetalblogger- You’re mistaken that location is LIC. LIC, Sunnyside and Woodside all have specific borders. In actuality Sunnyside is a LIC neighborhood (111 in Zip Code) and Woodside is a Flushing neighborhood (113 in zip code). Just consult a zip code map.
The neighborhood borders existed long before the Post office instituted zip codes. They’re not the final word on location. I have a Woodside zip code but my building is surrounded by Sunnyside, all thanks to the Post Office and not reality. Just because my zip code implies that I live in Woodside, I am 100% in Sunnyside.
I live in Woodside I walk to the pist ofgice on 61 st and it says Woodside Office but bc my zip is 11377 my cable water & etc all states Flushing !!! I do not live in Flushing ok but Post Office should change this .
Smitty- You’re obviously not in Sunnyside, just live with it. When I was in Bryant HS well before zip codes were assigned in the sixties, the books in the school library were all stamped 3- LIC and Sunnyside was 4- LIC. You’re in that south western portion of Woodside (Flushing) that borders Sunnyside. The fact that you guys have to trek up to 61st Street for mail has always bothered the Woodsider’s who lived there. The post office should probably put a satellite station there or consolidate that part of Woodside into the Sunnyside branch. That was never considered aviary if Sunnyside it was called “the other side of the boulevard” by locals.,
