New ‘Affordable’ Housing Lottery Opens in Woodside, Rent Costs $1,800

65-25 Roosevelt Ave. (Google July 2018)

Jan. 8, 2020 By Allie Griffin

A new affordable housing lottery has opened for a newly constructed building in Woodside.

Three one-bedroom apartments are up for grabs at 65-25 Roosevelt Ave. Each unit costs $1,800 a month to rent.

The units are available to households of one to three people who make a combined annual income between $61,715 and $124,930. A full breakdown of the income requirements is below.

The apartment building has a rooftop and split unit AC/heat. It is near the 7 and M subway lines, the LIRR and the Q53, Q70 and Q32 buses.

Tenants are responsible for paying electricity and gas bills, in addition to monthly rent.

The deadline to apply is Jan. 30, 2020.

While the units are given out to eligible applicants through a lottery, some preference is given to applicants with vision, mobility and hearing disabilities.

Those eligible can apply to the housing lottery online here.

As scraps of rust and broken beams come raining down on a typical morning, you will awaken to the deafening sounds of the subway. This subway — the “El”– is elevated just high enough to appear to be coming through your living room window every 5 minutes until you move or die, whichever comes first.

even if there’s a serial killer in front of the building, they will still find occupants. because woodside if far better than many other areas past it.

I can find a cheaper 1br in that area

If I make 61k I would not afford a crappy 1bdr for $1800.
Minimun wage = share a room, you can not afford the affordable.

So let me get this straight: You have to make, at the minimum, a salary of $61,000 in order to qualify for a one-bedroom ‘affordable housing unit’ that costs $1,800 a month?

And people wonder why there’s so many homeless in NYC. This is no city for working-class people. Something is horrifically wrong here.

With the cities rent assistance vouchers those that make less per month can afford the monthly rent. They need to build more for Sunnyside.

This area is terrible! So loud, dirty and the train as well! Plus your neighbors are dirty as hell. Just why….

Those buildings aren’t worth $800. Cheap and ugly construction. A complete eyesore that doesn’t blend in with the neighborhood. They can’t even finish the building next to it.

You're kidding.

My maintenance increase and my fixed mortgage is still less than this “affordable” housing.
