Thai restaurant opens at former Williamsburger location

July 20, 2017 Staff Report

A new Thai restaurant has opened on Greenpoint Avenue on the border of Sunnyside and Long Island City.

The restaurant, called Thai Tree, is located at 36-17 Greenpoint Ave. (near 50th Avenue) where Williamsburger had operated since 2013. Williamsburger closed in March.

The eatery is operating in a section of the neighborhood that is not known for dining and entertainment. It is located on the periphery of a manufacturing area, and in the vicinity of St. Raphaels Church.

Thai Tree has a large menu which can be viewed on seamless. It is open 7 days from 11am through 11pm and delivers. (718) 806-1046

It offers $8.95 lunch specials between 11am-3:30pm.

Looks like they already closed here because there was a major fire here last night, this has to be the fastest closing of a restaurant in the neighborhood.
Maybr they really did work with no permits that guy is right. What a bunch of idiots. Where do they come from???

The owners don’t want there name released because they have two other locations that do so poorly and have been closed by the health department numerous times.
The first one is on Skillman and 51st street and never a customer inside. It’s a total front for some illegal activity.
The other one is called black Thai on Northern and 88. This place is so disgusting and wretched.
These people have been working on this location for 6 months now without any permits doing gas and plumbing and construction I live up the street and am very concerned for anyone living close by because without proper permits something major could happen.

I live on 48th street and went to one of the places on Skillman it’s called Esan Thai I got so sick from the food at this place when it opened a couple years ago.
I’m not surprised they don’t want anyone to know there names.
Usually the business owners that hide there contact are the ones that are up to something shady.

Larry: a good suggestion for you would be to cook at home and take a pro-biotic every day. That would eliminate your stomach problems. Or just don’t eat Asian food.

Esan Thai is HORRIBLE. I ordered from there when they first opened and I was appalled at the sorry excuse for “Thai” food they were peddling.

I think they must pay for positive reviews on seamless, and I have no idea how they’re even maintaining a 3.5 rating on Yelp (https://m.yelp.com/biz/esan-thai-food-woodside)

I drive the sewage truck in the photo Thai Tree has selected for their promo photo. Let me tell you they have the best sewage, just so happens I also deliver the Masaman curry.

You never have anything pleasant to say, do you? Always something disparaging and sarcastic. You must be really something in person.

I hope those people cook better than the retired masseuses that man our other local Thai places.

The waitresses I’ve encountered at the Thai restaurants on Queens Blvd are very nice- pleasant, friendly, and intelligent. I don’t know why you have to imply anything else.

Back in the 70’s, that location was somewhat successful bar but since then it has been very difficult. First Thai restaurant in this area opened in late 80’s way before the area was ready. Series of businesses, some good and some bad, have not succeeded. Geography and demographics of this part of Sunnyside/LIC just not right.
Having seen the menu, prices are somewhat higher than 4 other Thai restaurants in their market. Unless the food is unbelievable, unlikely to be successful.

Most of us walk or ride a bike. If you live around here, you don’t need a car. I certainly don’t think more of our city needs to be turned over to drivers in the way of storage for they’re cars- leave them home in your driveway or get rid of it and buy a bike.

Remember Williamsburger was trying to get the city TO TAKE AWAY FREE PARKING SPACES and install meters from 36-39st and us locals stood up to them thank you

Sunnyside post reported on this and the reaction was not very nice to williamsburger. just a bad business decision they could have bought the Ecuadoran place across the street which has a small parking lot

I’m with you Frank. I’m also going to pretend that it’s convenient to drive a car in this city because I’m super lazy.

The first photo shows sewage truck draining feces and urine from the restaurant. I will always think of that everytime I see or hear Thai Tree and I hope you all do too.

Best wishes to our new neighbors. I pray for their menu and the man driving the truck. I love all of you. Amen.

Do you think that’s how toilets work? They don’t have outhouses!!! They are draining cooking oil.
