Soleluna Applying For 10-Seat Outdoor Cafe

June 1, 2016 By Michael Florio

Soleluna, an Italian restaurant located at 40-01 Queens Blvd., hopes to offer an outdoor café to customers this summer.

Owner Valerio Marchi will bring his application to establish an outdoor seating café with five tables and 10 seats before Community Board 2 on Thursday.

The tables will run along 40th Street, according to Marchi.

He decided to apply for the outdoor seating as he believes it will add to the appeal of the restaurant.

“It will add to the restaurant and what we offer,” Marchi said.

“I want to have tables set up this summer,” he added. “I will set them up once our application is approved.”

The application will go before Community Board 2 for a vote at its monthly meeting tomorrow. This is an advisory vote that gets sent as a recommendation to the Department of Consumer Affairs, which ultimately makes the decision.

Soleluna opened about a year ago. Marchi, who is from Milan, co-owns the restaurant along with his two sisters.

He lives with his wife, Michele, a Venezuela native, and two daughters on 40th Street. The two have lived in Sunnyside for more than a decade.

Sole Luna is the best Italian restaurant in Sunnyside. Dazies is very good but check out Sole Luna. Very different and authentic Northern Italian. And lovely staff. This from a long time Sunnysider & foodie.

Stop the madness

I like both ponticello was good, dazies at its peak in my opinion was better. And I agree with a “a friend of dazies” lilly is an incredible person, they don’t make them like this anymore, shes a angel. I also agree that if you like soleluna, i havent eaten there yet, why bash dazies like that. Sir walter whatever your name is, stick to the topic at hand ,business is hard enough without you and your unnecessary comment. All I can say is i wish them all well.

A friend of dazies

Dazies is still the best. Old school yes, could they use some sprucing up, yes, but they are there 44 yrs for a reason and this neighborhood doesn’t exactly support them. I can guarantee you that soleluna isn’t there in 10yrs. I wish them luck but longevity in the restaurant business is tough, especially when your paying rent and you can’t buy the building. Lay off dazies sir walter dooshbag ,they put a lot of heart and soul into this area for alot of years. Lily the owner is highly respected with the community board, the ss chamber of Commerce, and with a tremendous reputation basically within the whole borough, Its the only old world Italian restaurant left around here. What this woman did, open her own business, bring up a family, and is still working into her 80’s is unmatched in today’s society. So show the lady some respect, or just don’t comment at all.
