The yearly pre-holiday Craft and Art Fair will take place in Sunnyside on Sunday, with 40 vendors expected to participate.
Vendors will offer jewelry, ceramics, quilts, Christmas ornaments, woodwork, knitting, paintings, photographs and comics. Sunnyside Artists will host the event this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Queen of Angels Church, 44-04 Skillman Ave.
“Every year gets bigger and better,” Manny Gomez, President of Sunnyside Artists, said.
All of the artists are from Sunnyside or nearby neighborhoods Woodside, Astoria, Long Island City and Jackson Heights.
Artwork will be priced $1 and up, according to Patricia Dorfman, founder of Sunnyside Artists. Artists retain all the money from sales.
In years past, the group has had 800 to 1,000 people attend the event. Gomez is expecting attendance to match or exceed that number this year.
Gomez said the artists and community share the organization’s passion about the fair.
“When I see the faces of the families who come and enjoy themselves and the artist’s face when people buy their work, it’s a great feeling,” Gomez said.
“People always look forward to it and ask when we are holding it,” he added.
Gomez said the event would not be possible without Father Bryan Dowd allowing Sunnyside Artists to host the event in the church.
There will be raffles and food on site at a “Patron of the Arts Café” pop-up, according to Dorfman.

I went. It was the best fair yet. More crafts, more people, more community spirit. Thanks to Manny Gomez, Melissa Orlando, Pat Dorfman and all their people.
It’s so great to have a place to buy gifts for my art-loving friends. Ann Cofta’s cards are great office gifts and stocking stuffers. A lady named Chris had painted hearts for my Christmas tree last year. I want some more!
