A woman almost had her cell phone snatched when a man tried to grab it at the 40th Street subway station while she was speaking on it, according to police.
The suspect approached the 33-year-old victim from behind on the stairwell at around 1:20 pm on Monday, October 12, before trying to grab it.
The woman resisted and screamed and the suspect let go of the phone and fled.
The suspect was described as a male Hispanic, 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 130 lbs. He was last seen wearing a gray waist-length hooded jacket with an orange liner, dark-color jeans, and a plain dark-color baseball cap.

The other night on 7 train an angry black guy kicked me and another woman . Thankfully he did not have a gun . Lots of nasty people on that train . This incident happened near 46 th street stop
There was a show on National Geographic last night about cell phone theft. They are snatched out of peoples hand, called apple picking. They are sent to Miami where they are shipped to Columbia where they can be resold for up to $2,000.00 by drug cartels to China or Brazil. Extremely lucrative. Even though phones have kill switches, they can be disassembled and sold as parts, motherboards.

I’ve seen this happen before. this is most likely done by the troubled youth that go to queens vocation hs near that stop.

While I agree that SSP reports these things way too late, it’s better late than never. And that footage above? Come on NYPD, what is that!? You mean to tell me there was not a single other camera between station and this place?
I was hit by a car in Brooklyn. Hit and run. Police did nothing. I tracked down all the cameras on google earth and contacted businesses myself to get the videos which I then told the police about. All the buildings told me that the NYPD never contacted them. Not even at the intersection I was hit at.
That’s weird, I guess it only happens where there is more serious crime, but this is really really weird. Thanks for sharing your story.
but if a cop was a hit and run…the NYPD only helps themselves…you don’t matter to them at all…what a joke.
