Another Hit-And-Run in Woodside Leaves Man in Critical Condition

Oct. 9, 2014 By Michael Florio

Another pedestrian has fallen victim to a hit-and-run in Woodside.

A 20-to-30 year old male was struck in the early hours today while crossing the intersection at Queens Blvd and 60th Street.

A dark colored SUV was traveling westbound along Queens Blvd when it struck the victim at about 1:30 am, according to an NYPD spokesperson. The vehicle did not stop and continued westbound toward the Queensboro Bridge.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim to be unconscious. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing.

Accidents happen, of course, but it’s pretty easy for everyone to dramatically lower the chances by obeying traffic laws. If nothing else, you’d think people would take responsibility for their own safety. Sadly, this rarely seems to happen around here.

why hasn’t this person been identified as of yet — and if he has not been identified and his family is most likely looking for him it should be all over the news like everything else —

most likely he was probably coming out of the bar on that block — poor soul — but still there are plenty of cameras over there so they should be able to find out who owns this car —

Correct Driver Man

Crossing against the lights is, of course, dangerous but that doesn’t give drivers carte blanche to mow down pedestrians as if they didn’t exist.

Driver or pedestrian, there’s no cure for stupid. According to witnesses, he was crossing against the light. In fact, he appeared to be trying to outrun the oncoming car. Regardless, no excuse for the driver to leave the scene!
Bottom line, everyone on the road (drivers, bikers and pedestrians) must be responsible for safety.
And parents, how about NOT crossing against the light baby carriage first?! Drives me nuts!

There’s a lot of drunk drivers that go up and down queens boulevard. I don’t know why cops don’t patrol up and down more.

That area you can see cars coming a mile away, I’m betting the driver had his lights off.

I would just love the cops to position themselves at different intersections every day and night for just one week to actually see what is going on! If the city needs to MAKE money this is one easy easy way to make it.

DiBozio is just stupid…the problem is not spped but Lighting, so many intersection are very poorly lit couple that with idots dressng all in black at nighttime,

I cant think of any city i lived in are not this dark at night plus when it rains the who thing turns black roads are poorly painted and there are no reflectors on the sides or on the road to guide you….

concrete barriers reflect light when new but after years of soot they are useless how abut washing them once every 5 years????

Again probably Wearing dark colors on a dark intersection and probably crossing against the light……..tell me non-drivers how should we avoid that kind of stupid?

Hey Rikki, it’s great that when you make assumptions you can jump right to victim blaming. There is no way of knowing what they were wearing, but what we do know for sure if that the driver left the scene. You’ve shown yourself through your comments to be an ardent supporter of the auto – i’d like to hear your justification for the driver leaving.

That was stupid and wrong I would have yelled at him for jaywalking and demanded the cop give hm a ticket…you have no idea how many people cannot read or think and run across the street against the light daring drivers to hit them.

I would say 80% its the pedestrians fault if you have 10 seconds you are not going to cross queens blvd unless you are a world champion sprinter.
