A law firm is opening up on Skillman Avenue–at a location that was has been vacant for years.
The legal firm will be taking over the space that was once a La Plaza Mexico, located on the corner of 49th Street and Skillman Ave.
A worker on the site said the offices should open in about a month but had few other details.

That sounds right, anon. The kitchen has to be vented to at least 3′ above the roof. For a 6-story building it would be quite costly. It would also be unsightly running up the building.
Unfortunately, I heard that they required any restaurant to put in their own ventilation system which would be in the high tens of thousands of dollars. Plus the rent is double what it was when it was a bodega. That’s why the other guy left. I miss him, he was nice. 🙂
I agree with you again, Sunnyman. The restaurants on the corners of 46th and Skillman have really enlivened that area. I love running into friends and neighbors there.
Dorothy- that is interesting and unfortunate- I could easily see some outdoor seating wrapping around the corner there, but again the landlord can rent to whoever he wants….
I am hoping that the places on the other side of Skillman (the old comic book store and upolstery store) get developed into a restaurants….that would be great.
Saul Goodman is on the “restaurant” case.
@ Sunnyman. I agree with you. I was told by one of the commercial tenants in that building that the landlord did not want a restaurant.
I dont begrudge anyone creating a business where they want, but have to be honest that is a prime location for a nice restaurant and somewhat disappointed that a law office would go there.

It will be nice to see that corner fixed up.
When corners go from bodegas to upscale coffee houses and aw offices you know you have been gentrified. Watch out laundry mat, you are in danger of being priced out.

things are looking good over there in SG, my moneys on “lawyer” going up on the sign
there is another law office one block away on the south side of 48 st and skilman ave… near the beauty salon… this should be exciting for lawyers on the noth side of the blvd…good luck to them…
So that’s where Saul Goodman is relocating to.
