Salt & Fat Receives High Praise From Michelin Guide

Sept. 26, 2013 Staff Report

The Michelin Guide released its 2014 restaurant booklet and Salt & Fat was among the picks for the best value for money.

Salt & Fat was the only Sunnyside restaurant to receive what’s known as Michelin’s “Bib Gourmand” award, a highly-sought prize. The guide, for this award, evaluates restaurants for excellence on a budget (defined as two courses and wine or dessert for $40 a head).

the name Salt & Fat is a bit of a stunt – it’s not really out of the ballpark for either. Quite reasonable on salt and fat!

The fried chicken is spectacular. They did hava a great branzino a while back which was great as well.

Big Fan !!! wish they had more Veg/fish options, but they also have substituted ingredients for me. ALWAYS a favorite when guests are in town. If their Scollops dont get you, nothing will..AMAZING..yes I miss some old menu items, and wouldnt mind some change but LOVE it there. Waiters very chill and helpful. last couple times there was disturbed by the pounding of music from next door at the old Korean church, which is not only ruining things for Salt and Fat, but is seemingly exempt from any noise ordinance in the city, having heard the pounding of the bass on the weekends, windows closed, past 2am almost a block away.

Speaking of stale menus, whats up with Quaint? It’s been the same forever. And the food is not as good lately.

I believe the menu changes seasonally, but it’s definitely changed in the last year and a half. I’ve had a lot of fantastic things that are sadly no longer available. Every time I go past, I make sure the oxtail terrine is still there!

The decor isn’t my favorite, but who cares, it’s clean and it does the job.

The only downside are the desserts. They’re OK but there are only two choices, and neither is nearly as interesting as the rest of the menu.

Big fan of Salt & Fat; on my way there for dinner with friends visiting from the UK tonight! My one complaint, though, is that the menu has been exactly the same for at least a year and a half, which seems like a counter-intuitive business-model for a small-plates restaurant.

One of the big draws for small-plates/tapas is that the size of the dishes allows diners to order several items and taste much of the menu. In only two visits of ordering four dishes each time, we’ve tried pretty much a full 2/3 of the menu and just about everything we were interested in. The Oxtail terrine is wonderful, the Korean BBQ wraps awesome, and the pork trotter unexpectedly amazing.

Everything we’ve had at Salt & Fat has been great, but the allure of trying new and similarly awesome stuff on subsequent visits would really bump them up on our list of places to eat out in the neighborhood! We often discuss options for dinner out, but decide the wait isn’t worth it to order a bunch of stuff we’ve already tried, no matter how good it was the first time.

Seriously this place is not close to having amazing good. Maybe individuals in that area dont have a sophisticated palette to truly know what good food really is. And the decor does not make sense what so ever. Don’t understand what all these people are tasting in the food, because I sure didnt taste any flavors had to return my food also because it look like baby food.

Most restaurants use a lot more salt and fat than you would use at home. That’s why it tastes so good!

I’ve only been to Salt and Fat once, primarily because it’s always busy and there’s no place to wait. When I had friends from out of town who wanted to try it, we went about 8 and it was, not surprisingly, full. We were told they would call us when our table was ready, that we could have a drink across the street at the local pub. We had time for one drink when we were called. The four of us decided to try a variety of appetizers, entrees and desserts and I was so glad we did. Everything was delicious, from the popcorn drizzled with bacon fat served as soon as we sat down to the great desserts. But the standouts were the ribs and the scallops which melted in your mouth. Everything was fresh and delicious.

I found the service to be excellent. The servers really knew the food and were helpful in explaining unfamiliar items. I thought the prices were quite reasonable for the quality of the food.

Many many places deserve to b further up the list in Sunnyside than salt and fat. It’s not bad but def wouldn’t be running back there.

Waiters have an ultra chill , uninspiring approach about them.

Steak lettuce wrap had tough, chewy parts – twice!!

Excellent dishes, but try new cuts of meat at that price.

Do they really serve “salt and fat”? Please excuse my ignorance, I’m not a resturant enthusiast…
