The No. 7 train was out of service for at least five hours Monday following signal problems at Grand Central and Queensboro Plaza, according to the MTA.
The signal problems surfaced at around 11 am and also affected the N and Q lines, the MTA said.
While No. 7 train service returned at about 4 pm, riders faced delays at about 5pm, according to the MTA. Furthermore, there were no express trains at the time.
The N and Q trains had returned to normal service by about 5 pm, according to the MTA.
So the service was disrupted at 11am. Then why is it that when I was coming home from work in the Bronx in the mid-afternoon and I got to Grand Central and found the stairways to the 7 train taped up, with no announcements on the 4 or 5 train about the disruption? And no MTA workers in Grand Central available to explain to people what to do? I had to backtrack to 59th St, which was a nightmare because the Q train was also down. People were very patient and stoic, but it was crowded and unpleasant. And then the crowded N train was stopped in the tunnel for too long (feeling the panic setting in…) and then Queensboro Plaza was chaos. WAY TO DEAL WITH THE SITUATION, MTA!
MTA AND THE 7 TRAIN ESPECIALY REALLY SUCKS ITS GETTING WORSE AND WORSE. NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE COMPLAIN SO THEY DO WHAT THEY WANT RAISE FAIRS AND SERVICE IS GETTING WORSE
its a good thing that they keep raising and raising and RAISING their rate for this quality service that they provide. $30 million dollars a day and they refuse to fix these signalling issues that happen daily. people should demand a class action lawsuit in the billions against the MTA.

Just took me 30 minutes to get from 51st Street to Queensboro Plaza. 15 Years ago it would take me 30 minutes to get to 23rd street in manhattan during rush hour. we are screwed!!
again I’ll say it seems all the shutdowns are going into Manhattan…why not look for jobs in forest hills and flushing?
i had a job in kew gardens and was easy to get a seat at 9 am on the E and reverse commute…….think outside the box and be different……..

Someone who happened upon the scene asked the old timer what he was looking for, the old timer said he had dropped his wallet. The person who had just arrived decided to help in the search. After about 10 minutes of scanning the street the good neighbor asked the old timer where he thought he may have dropped the wallet, the old timer responded inside the theatre. The shocked good neighbor asked “why in the world are you not in the theatre searching”? The old timer replied the light is better out here. Sound familiar? caught the E to Jamaica this morning at 845 am plenty of seats…and a fast trip….this generation of kids are useless whiners and dumbos……you have no idea how to think outside the box, we are screwed as a nation when the millenals take over……

agreed. that is exactly what i have done…but not for the MTA $hitty service, but to just be able to drive to work. hopefully many more companies will exit Manhattan and start clustering in queens somewhere where there’s plenty of space.
These extensive service outages are just way too frequent. This is not statistically possible. There have been multiple major shut downs on this line just in the past few months. The umbrella on the tracks on February 2nd causing 3rd tail to freeze. March 5 th again the whole line shut down. We then had a rally at 40th street about service disruption and weekend shur downs.I have been riding this subway line since moving here in 1960 and never has it been this bad. This has to be retribution and nothing else. This agency has always had a spiteful streek.
I am shocked at the suggestion that the MTA workers, who move with such sense of urgency to do the smallest thing to help their riders, would engage in such behavior.
Seriously, replace the average MTA employee is about as valuable as a half-sentient mound of pond scum. Who is going to get fired or reprimanded for this kind of a problem? Time to link their pay to performance like the rest of the economy.
Our MTA service is pathetic. I’ve used various systems all over the world, and NYCs is amongst the worst with regard to reliability and consistency of service. There is no good excuse.
