A small fire broke out on the second floor of a 2-story apartment dwelling at 41-14 40th Street (beween 43rd Ave. and Skillman Ave.) at 2:52 am Monday. There were no injuries.
Firefighters arrived on the scene at 2:56 am and brought the fire under control at 3:23 am, according to a spokesman for the FDNY. The department sent out 11 engines and 60 firefighters.
One resident said the entire block was woken up by the noise and chaos.
The FDNY said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. However, a resident in the building said the fire began after a lit candle fell onto the floor.
