Cafe Marlene, located on 49th Street (btw. Skillman Ave and 43rd Ave.), is expected to open Friday, according to contractors who were working at the cafe yesterday.
UPDATE: On Thursday, a friend of the owner said it would open Monday (see comment below).
The cafe is expected to be a wine/beer bar. In September, at the Community Board 2 meeting, it was noted that the owners had applied for a wine and beer license.
The cafe, although small on the ground level, has an expansive space downstairs.

The menu on the website looks great. Can’t wait to give it a try!
Sounds like a very diversafied type of cafe. Plus with a wireless ,alot of people will go their instead ofd waking to starbucks or that cafe on greenpoint near babyblue. Its better to serve the residentce of skillman ave and our area so we do not have to walk up to the blvd especially with the colder weather and easier access to a cafe its in a perfect spot hope it does very well. Next thing you know that albelndale coffee shop on the corner will offer wireless to their customers and get a larger crowd of people in their also.
That’s too bad, I was hoping this would be a bar – with later hours, better beer. Does that area really need another cafe?
Also, the opening will be Monday morning, not tomorrow.
The owners of the cafe are friends and customers of mine; I’ll be setting up the free wireless internet access. I’m definitely looking forward to this addition to the neighborhood!
Kandi has told me that although Cafe Marlene will sell wine and beer and be open during evenings, it will be open from 7:00AM to midnight, selling coffee, crepes, croissants, sandwiches and salads.
Nice story by this web site. This wine/beer bar looks very ncie. With your story alot of people will find it and give it business. Their is not wine/beer bar east of 48th street. Not a great location,kinda of hidden away off skillman and way off the blvd. Lets hope it get business and sticks around.
