Run through the cold: 4 February races in Queens to help keep your New Year’s resolutions

Amid the busy month of February, with Valentine’s Day, President’s Day, and even snow days, it can be easy to lose track of your running schedule. During these cold winter months, the urge to stay indoors and avoid the harsh winds is strong. However, having the support of friends, family, and the local community can be the motivation needed to lace up your running shoes and push forward. Stay committed to your New Year’s resolutions and sign up for these races in Queens this month, some of which benefit important causes.

Cupid’s Chase 5K– Corona, NY (Saturday, Feb. 8)

This national 5K series raises awareness for housing and employment opportunities for people with disabilities every February at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. 5K participants and volunteers are encouraged to donate to Community Options, Inc. and any specific edition of the
Cupid’s Chase 5K in Queens, Brooklyn or Manhattan. The start time is 10 a.m. All participants receive a short-sleeved t-shirt, finisher medal, drawstring bag, and race bib.

Run Rockaway Beach V Day 5K and Half MarathonRockaway Beach, NY (Saturday, Feb. 8)

Organized by the Rockaway Track Club (RTC), this race, with a start time of 9 a.m., features two complete loops of the Boardwalk for the Half Marathon and one loop for the 5K. The mission of RTC aims to provide recreational opportunities for runners of all experience levels at Rockaway Beach while supporting local charitable causes. All participants receive a shirt and medal. The registration fee includes one free beer at Healy’s Pub.

Love on the Run 5KRichmond Hill, NY (Sunday, Feb. 9)

This family-friendly 5K promotes itself as the “chance to meet someone new or connect with the running partner already in your life.” The course runs through the closed road of Forest Park Drive at 9 a.m. Children under 12 years old race for only $25. All participants will receive a custom beanie, custom-shaped race bib, and medal. An assortment of treats and drinks is available post-race.

For the Love of Queens 5K Run/Walk – Corona, NY (Saturday, Feb. 15)

Hosted by Queens Distance Runners, the course takes you through three loops of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. In collaboration with New Immigrant Community Empowerment (NICE), race proceeds will be equally shared with NICE to support their mission to assist immigrant workers with vital resources. Hot cocoa is served to all participants upon conclusion of the race.
