A woman was fatally struck by a No. 7 train early Friday after she jumped off a subway platform in Sunnyside onto the tracks, according to police.

The victim, believed to have been in her 20s, leaped off the platform at the 40th Street–Lowery Street station onto the tracks in an apparent suicide at around 4 a.m. She was hit by an oncoming Manhattan bound train, according to police.

So sad. RIP. Suicidal thoughts usually consume a persons mind. Please, if you feel this way or have any thoughts, go to a hospital or a place to get help. Tomorrow is always a new day.

I was at that station 3 hours later and there was no sign of anything like this. I feel very sad for her.

Just a reminder that suicidal people are hurting

Most likely because they feel their life is out of control and this is one of the only things they feel they DO have control over.

People have to help them want to live. Don’t make them. If someone truly wants to end it, it ought to be their right.

Very, very sad for a young woman in her 20’s to have to resort to that. I am usually a very hard, cold person but hearing that saddens me greatly. God rest her soul. Always treat people nicely because you don’t know what’s going on below the surface.

So sad.

That station is cursed. A man was pushed in front of a train there several years ago by some crazy woman and another fell to his death a decade or so back. I don’t recall why he fell but I do recall seeing the body under a sheet on the sidewalk. There may have been another incident involving this station a while back as well.

I realize that multiple deaths/suicides have occurred at this specific station, but it’s not cursed. Think about what’s been happening over the last two years and what’s starting to unravel now. People have been having to deal with incredibly difficult problems, and unfortunately, some don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, so in their mind, suicide is the only way out.

Maybe she was high on weed or drunk. Smoke shops are selling very strong weed to youngsters.

Idiotic and insensitive. Maybe she just had a mental illness and because of it thought there was nowhere for her to turn. How about that thought pal?!!

Can Queens’ food scene thrive with both trucks and restaurants?

Aug. 19, 2025 By Jessica Militello

In Jackson Heights at 4 p.m. on a Thursday afternoon, Roosevelt Avenue is buzzing with energy as commuters file in and out of subway cars and onto the street and cars and trucks grapple to get down the busy road. The street is filled with rows of shops and restaurants, along with food carts, street vendors and food trucks along the avenue. The almost-but-not-quite the weekend lag leaves hungry commuters faced with another choice to make throughout their day and the array of food truck options in busy areas like Jackson Heights offers customers convenience and delicious food without breaking the bank, two features that can feel vital, particularly with rising costs of living and pressure from inflation.
