A 29-year-old woman was slashed with a knife by a man on board a 7 train in Jackson Heights yesterday.
The victim allegedly stood too close to the suspect when she got on the train at around 4:30 p.m. at the 82nd Street station. The man started yelling and kicking her on the Manhattan-bound train.
The woman took out her phone and began recording her attacker, police said.
The situation then escalated further and the man began cursing at the woman and took out a knife that was attached to a lanyard around his neck.
He began swinging the knife at the 29-year-old and slashed her left arm, police said. The woman fled the train at the Roosevelt Avenue stop, while her attacker remained on board.
The victim was cut on the arm, but didn’t require medical attention.
Police describe the attacker as being in his late 20s, with a tall slim build, brown eyes and close-cut short dark hair. He was last seen wearing a blue long sleeve T-shirt, gray shorts and dark grey sneakers.
Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM, or on Twitter @NYPDTips.

If the perpetrator were killed by a fellow passenger defending the victim he’d get a gold coffin and a tribute poster on Skillman.
New York is over.
I saw this story on tv. The victim says she is scared to leave her house now. She wants to return to her country. There is so much fear and anxiety because of the virus and all this crime and assaults is taking a toll on our emotional well being.
Maybe he just wanted her loaf of bread
Soon the NYPD and media will be accused of promoting body shaming and body image distortion. They need to stop using body size as a way to describe suspects. How is a victim suppose to know how much one weighs? Is that what they ask lately. Its subjective.
I hope someone recognizes the suspect
So she just started recording some random anonymous person and he just so happened to have a weapon in him which he then used on her but chance???
Or did he tell at her for being too close to him, slash her when she didn’t back up, then sat back down so she could video record him???
what is the race of the victim??
It does not matter! Eye color does nowadays and its wrong! Brown eyed people are getting a bad rap. I am sure blue and green eyed people commit crimes but the media does not focus on them.
Shhhhhh!
Is there a way they could have phrased it that doesn’t offend you as much?
they could have said “same old ghetto loser type..” and I would have been much less offended
Often its hard to tell when describing a suspect. He could be mixed, Hispanic or black. Perhaps that is why they choose not to mention the suspects race. Once i asked if a co worker was black and they got very offended they told me they were Dominican.
Any description of his race? Close cut short dark hair. Hmmm. Sounds Irish to me!
Patrick- There is a photo.
Irish??? #sarcasm!!!
PS the question was asked because we can’t give the description of BLACK anymore. “It’s racist!”
The guy who can’t see sarcasm strikes again…
What makes you think I’m a guy???
Us women folk now have access to the internet.
Lets protest all this crime.
Authorities and most elected officials would not let it happen and condone it due to corona virus. Look at what is happening. The city has check points to help stop the spread but was ok with the police protests. Most that are coming back to NYC are white so the city does not have an issue with stopping and questioning them. Be real.
He will be out immediately even if caught
It’s Cuomo a nyc and we are his peasants
It’s getting worse and worse thanks to democrsts making poor decisions.
Republicans are to blame with their racists policies and xenophobic attitudes. They refuse to help those in need thus causing all this crime. Its a cry for help.
They should of played the whole video so the public can see it online. The last one went viral with people realizing what is occuring on our city.
I have a strong feeling that the sound will reveal a whole different perspective.
Back in the day when I still took the subway (no way now), I would have moved to the next car if a disgruntled guy started yelling.
Yes, another example of the victim not really the victim.
I hope that he’s caught and arrested for what he did. Even if she provoked him, he needs to have more self-control than that. Please practice social distancing people!
Why was she standing in front of him? I see empty seats all around. The subway train hasn’t been full since the quarantine and coronavirus. I think this might have been a Karen and she was standing in front of him trying to piss him off.
The victim is from Paraguay.
Too close is too close in any country.
Criminals have been declared victims and victims are insignificant. I hope someone recognizes him by his tall slim build, brown eyes and close-cut short dark hair.
If you ride the train you should he carrying something to protect yourself with. If you aren’t then expect the worst
She was too close. She should have immediately moved when he started screaming. And she got a good still pic of him for this photo so he already was on high alert.
With him slashing and kicking her how did she have to e to get her phone out, gear it up to record????
Sorry. This is what you get for not paying attention to where your body is in the world.
best to carry protection these days in zoo york. mayor dont care. cops dont care. its you or them. and when they attack, you’d better be prepared. there are a ton of psychos out there in this horrible city.
When the nearest precinct is 2.5 miles away?
AND they are now not funded enough TO care???
like i said, there are no cops patrolling the stations and subways. its you or the criminal. what would you do to protect yourself? nobody will lift a finger to help you. you are pretty much done if you cant blast them.
This happened on a moving train. The 7 train is covered by of Transit District 20, not the 108. The location of the 108 Pct. Station House is irrelevant.
https://www1.nyc.gov/site/nypd/bureaus/transit-housing/transit-district-20.page
Since the regular blue bloods are called for uncontrollable passengers all the time.
The 108 will respond to calls anywhere in the Pct. however they do not patrol the 7 line. Officers from TD 20 do. My post was in response to complaints about the geographic location of the 108 Station House.
